I second the person who mentioned the CD ‘Meditations to Promote a Successful Surgery’ by Belleruth Naparstek. I listened to it before and after surgery and believe it was incredibly helpful to me. Another tip: to get your bowels moving after surgery, chew gum! Overall, my suggestion to anyone who is scared about this: you will feel better when it's over. Believe me. I was so nervous about having a hysterectomy and now, seven months later, I really feel pretty good. I am glad I don't have to deal with periods. I look fine. Haven't gained weight. Hot flashes once in a while but not horrible. Scar is no big deal. I'm back to myself again. You will be too.
