8 days post OP - woke to 102.7 temp and severe pain

Hey all. Hubby is on 13 hour night shift at railroad so just kids and I here to tonight. Has worst pain since the surgery from 7:30pm- 10pm tonight and thought it was just really bad gas pains since no BM yet. Took pain meds and fell asleep, only to wake up at midnight with a horrible headache, abdominal pain, and 102.7 oral temp. Called doctor and she says it's not related to lack of BM so to take more pain meds to try and come to office tomorrow am or if worse head to ER tonight. Yeah, I can't drive so I'm chilling here praying the temp continues to go down. Took 400mg Advil at 12:15 and 2 Tylenol 3's at 12:30 per doctor. Temp is down to 101.5 and pain tolerable as long as I lie still. Will keep you updated but reassuring stories would be appreciated!

Re: 8 days post OP - woke to 102.7 temp and severe pain

It does sound like some sort of infection. If your fever goes back up and the pain gets worse, you need to get to the ER. If you can't get hold of DH, you need to find someone else to drive you and watch your kids. This is not something to play around with. I'm not trying to scare you, I just want you to think of a plan to get to the doc if you need to. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Do please keep us updated.

Re: 8 days post OP - woke to 102.7 temp and severe pain

Ok. First of all I was only 6 days post-op when that happened- I'm 7 days post-op today. Sorry about that- we can thank Tylenol 3 with codeine and the fever ;-). Went to doctor yesterday afternoon. Still had fever at office and continued to rise while there. Doctor called in 800mg inuprophen every 8 hours and said 2 tylenol3 w/codeine every 4 hours for the next week plus daily stool softener. She did physical exam of abdomen and vaginal exam - it was so painful I couldn't help but cry! She found no signs of infection or missing stitches etc, but took vaginal swab and blood work to see if there may be hiding bacteria. I'm supposed to find out later this morning the results- but woke up an hour ago covered in sweat, extreme pain, and low grade temp of 99.8.

Re: 8 days post OP - woke to 102.7 temp and severe pain

Thank you ladies for your support! I didn't hear back from the dr's office do I called to check since i've had some puss smelling watery discharge today after she did exam yesterday. Blood work not back but they said discharge should not have puss smell or foul odor or be really watery so they went ahead and called in doxycycline and diflucan to try and ward off yeast with antibiotic. They want to see me in office again Friday for a re-check. I sure feel like I have a Great group of doctors looking out for my well being!
