Silly question but am I ok on a 10hr flight now??!!..

Hi sisters...
I'm approx 4.5 months post TAH and would love a hot beach holiday (I live in cold, wet England!!).
I'm still slightly concerned with flying as my tummy's still sore and swollen.
I just need some reassurance that I'd be ok??!...Thanks:-)

Re: Silly question but am I ok on a 10hr flight now??!!..

I think this is a question for your surgeon or family doctor.

10 hours is a looooong flight, and uncomfortable at the best of times. As long as your Dr. gives you the Ok, then you should still get an aisle seat so you can get up and walk as much as possible to avoid DVT.

Being summer time now, is there somewhere you can go that's not such a long flight away?

Enjoy your holiday--you certainly deserve one!

After 4.5 months I should think you'd be ready to pilot the plane. *grin*

The main concern with a long flight is blood clots, as redandwhite mentioned, but it seems to me that you're pretty far past surgery for that.

Check with your doctor for reassurance, do some walking during the flight and enjoy your vacation.

Thank you RedandWhite and SuprisedinNB:-)....
I forgot to say the holiday will be in October(reason for long flight time!!) so there's still another few months to go!!!..
I'll definitely make sure I get an aisle seat though:-)

I agree, 4.5 months you should be good to go! Walk up and down the isleas and do a lot of root circles (rotate ankle and use calf muscle)
ENJOY!!!

Were going to the Florida keys in November. Its only a 3.5 hour flight from Texas. Can't wait!!

You should be fine to fly by then. Just get up and stretch a bit. The anti embolism stockings are good for flights too. I had to fly 6 hours total to Phoenix from Kansas City at week 4, did fine. It wasn't by choice, family emergency.

Re: Silly question but am I ok on a 10hr flight now??!!..

We went overseas to London, Paris, and Amsterdam when I was a little over 3 months post-op. My doc didn't have a problem with it as I was doing well at my 8 weeks checkup (aside from waiting to have sex for a another couple weeks).

Walk around as much as they'll let you, drink plenty of fluids and try to get some sleep. When you're there, rest when you need to!

Good luck!
