Pain help!! 16 days Post OP

I am on my 16th day of a TAH and the pain in still very intense. During the surgery there was scar tissue on my bladder from a previous C-section, which caused my bladder to attach itself to my uterus. My doctor had to separate my bladder from the uterus and my uterus was very big.

What is bothering me the most is the pain - 2 percocets every 4 hours are not enough to control the pain. My doctor has now put me on Oxycontin which is helping a little.

Has anyone experienced pain where pain meds are not helping? I feel so alone and confused on why the painkillers are not working.

I am sorry you are having pain, even with the medication. I would ask the doctor how long and why the medication is not working. You may have a lot of healing to do as well since so much was done. If it is your bladder then it may be irritated. You could try cutting out anything that may irritate your bladder like caffeine or citrus foods and drink, drink 8 glasses of water a day.
I had some bladder issues some time ago and I had lower cramping and pain, and my urologist put me on a diet for it. Also, be sure you don't have a bladder infection, which you can have and not have any burning when you urinate.

I would keep in contact with the doctors , watch diet, drink water, and no lifting or pushing as the bladder is tender and needs healing.

Hope this helps some and you get better soon. You had major surgery with some extra work so it can take 6 to 8 weeks to heal. I felt better around 8 weeks with my surgery and repair (rectocele) I went from prescription to Motrin during that time. I rested a lot during my recovery so I would heal properly.

Thank you Suzy! You helped me understand more about the bladder and how it heals.

I am currently at the doctors office to check for a bladder infection.
