High Blood Pressure

I have been lurking on this board for months and I finally have gotten the nerve to post. I went to my GP today and she put me on blood pressure medicine. I am scheduled for a TAH on Oct 26. I have never had a problem with blood pressure my entire life. Even when I was pregnant and delivering it stayed low to normal. I am so upset about going into surgery with a pre- existing condition. Has anyone else had this happen and can my problems be stemming from the anemia/ blood loss etc. Might it return to normal afterwards?

High Blood Pressure

Hi, I don't know the answer to your question. Maybe your dr can give you one. Please call and ask, it might save you from some extra stress.

I have low normal blood pressure and it does go up a bit when I'm worried or stressed. Stress could be adding to yours. Please call and ask, your dr might be able to help.

High Blood Pressure

I went through the same thing. My blood pressure went up about 2 weeks before my surgery. My doc put me on a blood pressure medicine which got it back into range. I've never had high blood pressure either. I was also like you in that I had two children and it usually ran 100/60. It really made me nervous but everything went fine. I did end up anemic after the surgery but I was somewhat anemic going in. I'm really hoping mine will go back down and I can quit the blood pressure meds but it hasn't so far. I go to my GP thursday and see what she thinks.

High Blood Pressure

Thanks, I guess I am just so stunned by the whole thing. I just took my first pill, hopefully I will feel better after that.

High Blood Pressure

Hi angelscatering;
I don't have the exact problem you are having but thought I would add my thoughts to the list.
First off, please do call your doctor and discuss your fears. You will feel better.
I have had high blood pressure for about 6 years now. I take a 50MG atenolol daily.
Each time I go to the doctor or something stresses me it goes up.
Before my surgery I would have readings of 150/91 or so. After my surgery my BP has come down to the "normal" ranges! 115/71!
I still take my medicine however. I also have battled with anemia off and on for several years. After surgery I became very anemic.
It all may very well be stress in your case, you wouldn't be the first and won't be the last. It's better that it was found and is being taken care of now.
Try your very best to relax and not get stressed. If you can, go have a massage, it is such a nice feeling afterward! You will be able to lift some of that stress!
Best wishes to you! I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers!
