Had surgery Wed. & have been home since yesterday. I'm experiencing itching like crazy (Dr. says its from the spinal), numbness at the incision site, dizziness, inability to sleep along with manageable pain - can anyone tell me how long before the immediate post-op crud gets better? Also, since they took my ovaries I'm thinking that must be the reason I can cry at the drop of a hat - I've never been a "cryer" but geez, if I drop a napkin I can burst into tears. Poor dh doesn't know what to do when it happens as he's never seen me act like this. I'm taking estrogen so I'm thinking that also needs a few days to get adjusted? Thanks for the answers & the support

I'd have to say it took me about a week, maybe a little longer, to start feeling like I might get better. Rest. Don't do anything. You need to heal. I at 18 days post-op and starting to feel a little normal once in a while.

I've been drinking a ton of liquids but then unfortunately I need to use the bathroom every 15 minutes or so - was that true with you to? Dr. said get up & move 5 or 6 times a day but with this bathroom situation & since I can't sleep I bet I'm up a couple times an hour & this swelly belly is getting quite nice - dh is running to the store to get me an icepack & backscratcher

My doctor told me before my surgery that the first week post-op was the worst, and he was right!

As for the frequent urination, yes, I was going all the time. I was drinking lots of water (as instructed!), but I think some of it was due to all the fluids they pump into you with the IV. Glad you're doing ok!

I have to agree -- it'll be a few more days. You've had major surgery and your body has been through physical trauma. It's not just hype, as you're now feeling.

Just take it easy and allow yourself to heal at your own rate. Some may feel better in 4 days, it might take you 8 or 10 days. Just remember -- it isn't a race. It's a process.

A few more days yet. Being "a crier" may be hormones but can also be directly related to the general anaesthetic and other pain meds, etc. that need to get out of your system.
Most of us were unable to sleep well for the first 10 days or thereabouts. We were called the "3 or 4-hour club". I think I really saw improvement in moods, sleeping, dizziness, peeing, pain at about 2 weeks.
That probably seems like a long time to you right now (it seemed never-ending to me at the time), but it will fly by and you'll be feeling much better really soon!
