unsure of what to expect

Hello ladies!

Yesterday I got the call that the dr can do my LSH on 12-15-2010. No insurance after the end of the year. But I have yet to really discuss the actual surgery with him. I had two dr's confirm this is my best option now but I have to wait until the 10th for my pre op consultation.

I like to plan and dont know what to do. I have 2 children, 10 & 9, I was told it was out patient and would go home the same day but have heard from so many others that this is not true. Has anyone ever gone home the same day? How about time off of work? I am a waitress and was told 2 - 3 weeks maximum?

Any advice, (hate to wait til friday) would be so appreciated.

Unfortunately, I can't offer advice as I am still biting my nails until my pre-op appt, but I can commiserate with your situation. I'm just coping by reading as much as possible and adjusting my expectations based on similiar situations, knowing full well that I'll probably need to be flexible in those expectations. I've made my time off request at work, telling them I'll be out 3.5 weeks minimum, with the possibility of more. I work for a hospital, so they're understanding. Just plan for best case and worst case and shoot for somewhere in between. I know that's not exactly helpful, but it DOES get you thinking about specific questions to ask your surgeon. I had my LSH yesterday and had planned go home yesterday afternoon but I was incredibly weak and nauseas so they kept me for the night. Although I was sweating the cost, I think it would have been impossible for me to go home and do things like make it to the toilet, in and out of bed etc. I was glad I stayed because the hospital bed made it easier to get comfortable along with the handicap bars in the bathroom.

My children are a bit older (18 and 15) which definitely Definately helps recovery. I made several casseroles for the freezer to avoid cooking.
