Hysterectomy choices
I have made my decision to go ahead and have the hysterectomy but now my dr. says I have the choice of leaving the cervix. It seems like this is getting more and more complicated.
I have an ovarian mass not sure if cancerous, CA125 was ok but I was told that is not always acurate. So atleast one ovary has to be removed. Had the other one partially removed several years ago. Dr. wants to leave it if it looks ok. I am not sure about this because I have a history of cysts and having them rupture.
I also have very painful bleeding and clotting this is why I am choosing the hysterectomy. I have tried birth contol, various types but it hasn't worked.
I guess I am curious I know everyone has different options for what is wrong, But has anyone else been in this situation with leaving the other ovary and the cervix choice.
I like my dr. but I am a new patient to him because I go to my family practice for everything so it is a new relationship, so it is kind of hard to talk to him. I had to push him to do the ca125 now he is ready for surgery. I get to schedule it next wee. I am not questioning the hysterectomy just how far to go? any thought and experience would be great. I am going to post similar in post op for real experiences.
Thansk so much and bless you all!

Leaving Cervix
I am hoping that I am able to keep my cervix. My best orgasms are related to my cervix (and maybe my uterus - I think my BF is scared to come near me since my constant disabling pain started a few weeks ago, so I haven't had an opportunity to think about it, but I know the cervix is BIG for me). So, the whole hyster thing is enough to send me into -drum roll, please - hysterics.
Everyone is different - if you haven't already, read the Pre-Op article on whether or not to keep your cervix:

Hysterectomy choices
Nancy,
I had fibroids in my uterus instead of problems with my ovaries and I still felt like I wanted to reply.
Not being a Dr., I can suggest you check out all the alternatives. UFE, TAH, a LAVH and a LSH, which is what I had.
I am 3 1/2 weeks post-op and I am VERY pleased with my surgery results.
Reading on the boards, it sounds like a number of Hyster Sisters opt to have one ovary removed and they keep their cervix also. I know in the LSH procedure I had, I was able to keep my cervix. My surgery was done through my belly button and two small hip incisions. I did not have any surgery work done vaginally.
The advantages I have heard to keeping the cervix are pelvic ligament support and better sexual satisfaction, as Esmereldapea stated.
Also, if you choose to keep one ovary, from what I have read, you do NOT go through "instant" menopause and therefore, do not have to go on HRT immediately. With one ovary, one can still possibly produce hormone(s) and you can then go through a "natural" menopause.
I can suggest typing all the procedures you want info. on in the "search this forum" line on the different boards. Just spell out the full names for the surgeries and procedures and info. from Hyster Sisters will come up.
Also - I can suggest getting another opinion if you do no feel "totally" comfortable with your Dr. I got two opinions before I had surgery.
Good luck!!! We are here to help you

Hysterectomy choices
A friend of mine was recently diagnosed with ovarian cysts. Several that are at least 3 cm in size. don't know if that is big or not. How are ovarian cysts normally treated? What happens if they rupture? What causes them to rupture? What complications can occur? Can you just leave them untreated?

ovarian cysts
Cysts can develop on the ovaries due to different reasons but are fairly common in premenopausal women. Most are fluid filled that come and go on their own. A lot of drs. will put you on birth control or other forms of hormones to help control the cysts if they are fluid filled. It really depends on the type of cyst that it is, and if they are causing any type of pain.
I had one rupture once and they never could tell me why. It just happens sometimes, is what I was told. It is painful when they rupture and I had to have surgery to remove part of that ovary where the cyst had been.
Make sure she talks to her dr. about what type of cyst they are and what is the best way to treat them is. That is the most important. I can only tell you about my experience with them.
