Femoral Nerve Damage

I had surgery on June 9 and from the moment I tried to get out of the hospital bed I noticed that I had a severe sharp pain in my thigh whenever I went into certain position or moving in and out of bed. At first I though it was the tape getting caught on my skin and pulling it, but after removing the tape the sharp pain did not stop. Once I would be out of bed the pain would be gone. I also had to sleep with my legs raised to relieve the pain. After meeting with the GYN he explained that this was very common after a hysterectomy. The clamps that they use to hold your abdomin open may iritate the femoral nerve which is located in you pelvic area (in my case on my right side). This nerve sends the pain signal to your thigh. The GYN recommended I take Vitamin B Complex on a daily basis to relieve this issue. Yesterday I was finally able to move around pain free, so in roughly 4 weeks this issue has gone away. No where on any site was there a recommendation to use this vitamin for that purpose, but it appears to work well.

Re: Femoral Nerve Damage

Thanks for the tip . . . I didn't have any pain, but I did have some numbness the first week. It wasn't constant, just every now and then, but I expected it from reading various post on this website.

I know my doc also told me to use lotion with Vitamin E on my incisions, which are small since I had the daVinci. She said it would sooth them and I've been doing that as well.

Re: Femoral Nerve Damage

The first time I sat on the toilet and tried to pee, I felt a pain so sharp in my left thigh that I thought a pin was in the hospital gown stabbing me. My thigh was numb in the area too. I am 7 weeks out now, and it is finally subsiding. It was bad the first couple of weeks, but now I only feel it if I am pushing hard with a bowel movement. I thought I would have it forever at the beginning, but, all things have improved. Good luck to you. I think it will go away!
