Help! I have a question!
My husband is being very good about my upcoming surgery, but guess what? He has a business trip to HAWAII on Dec 2. My surgery, bladder repair and uterus removal, is scheduled for Nov 16th. From those of you who have already had this surgery...what are the chances I would want to go with him 17 days after my surgery? We live in California so the plane trip is about 8 hours. It would be for 2 weeks and he would be working during the day, M-F. Weekends he would be off. He would feel guilty leaving me here alone, but I don't know if I should commit to going so soon after? Your ideas on this would really help me.

travel so soon?
why don't you wait and see how you feel after having surgery? you may just change your mind. i know when i came home 3 days after having my surgery, the car hit every bump and pothole on the road. it wasn't a fun ride home and i was very cranky toward everyone. oops.
plus you may want to contact your insurance co before you go. they may not cover you for travel so soon after surgery. especially if you tear something inside on the trip. and remember that you take a chance of getting bumped by other passengers or getting bounced around from turbulence if you need to get up and move around.
i would take extra pillows!
whatever you decide, i hope you have a speedy recovery. good luck to you.
Hugs,
MissEthel ;-))

Help! I have a question!
While this might not particularly play a role as to whether you'll feel/be well enough to travel or not, what type of surgery are you having--tvh, tah, lavh, sah?

You should really ask your doctor...he knows best if you're ready to travel so soon after your surgery. It also depends on how you'll be feeling & if you'll really be up to it as well.
Good luck & a speedy recovery.

Help! I have a question!
I had a TAH and I can only say that I would NOT have been able to handle that at all.

Help! I have a question!
HI! I would say you would be ok to go if you just rest M-F then go out on the weekend. It would give you 5 more days to heal. But are you going to have to come home with a foley? That could be a big problem! I would ask your dr but I would think if all goes well, why not rest in Hawaii!! You could order room service and there is no house keeping! You would get more rest there! Good luck!

Help! I have a question!
Hmmmmm, not sure why my other post showed up twice--strange..oh well....
I would say, having been through a tvh/a-p repair, that barring any complications you should be cleared to travel. The thing to remember should you do decide to go is to move around every hour to keep the blood flowing. It's also important to stay hydrated when flying.
I'm with the other poster--why not recover in Hawaii!!
good luck

Recovery in Hawaii sounds like heaven, but you really should talk to your dr about making the trip. Also keep in mind that you will do a lot of walking in the airport, and may be jostled around by people. Also ask about your chance of blood clots and other possible complications of flying after surgery. If he gives you the green light and you are up to it... Have a drink for me!
