A bit worried

Since my VH on 24 January, hasn't left any external sign of surgery (that is, no abdominal incision) I can't see any signs of healing.

I feel a bit worried that I have been doing too much or lifting too much and might have torn stitches, adhesions or anything it's possible to worry about.

I tend to be a bit anxious.

Before my surgery I was on HRT and didn't experience hot flushes. Until I see my dr in 2 weeks for my 6 weeks check up, I'm not taking anything for the flushes. They are quite frequent, sometimes waking me up in the middle of the night and often I can't get back to sleep.

It's the middle of summer here and very hot anyway.

Does anyone have any experience with these issues?

Your body will let you know if you are overdoing it. Trust me, I know this for a fact...lol. My dr told me not to lift anything over 7 pounds...he basically said if you need 2 hands to pick it up, don't! I don't have an answer for you on the HRT because I just started mine. Best of luck to you.

A bit worried

I had a tah/bso and did really well until about the 2 1/2 week point. At that point I began to get anxious about everything. I was having a little spotting still and I started worrying about that and every little twinge I was having. It lasted for several days and then I calmed down. I think it is normal when you are taking it easy and have a lot of time to think to start obsessing. I'm sure the meds, anesthesia, hormones all contribute also. My only advice at this point is if you think something you are going to do is too much, stop yourself. Then you won't have to worry after. Being careful, finding things to occupy my mind and prayer has really got me through this whole thing.

Hi Conniew
It might help to read through the Checkpoints for where you are in your recovery right now. It's great that you feel so good, but there is some danger of over doing. Don't push yourself. There's no hurry so give your body the time it needs to heal.

Dealing with hotflashes can be miserable. There are some natural products that might help you through this time. You can read in the Hormone Article List . A lot of women have had good success with the Cocktail recipe that is shared there. Carrying a fan is a good idea. I bought a small handheld fan at WalMart and carried it with me for a while. You might want to do some other reading in that article list to help you decide what you want to do long term.

Hi Rita,

Thanks for you support. I had the same surgery as you. (Except that I had a bladder repair) A fan is a great idea.

Did you not have to see your Doctor after 10 days? Mine wanted to see me to put me to see how I was doing, no checking "down below" yet. The night before my appointment I was convinced I was coming down with the flu. I was nauseated, my skin felt like it was on fire, etc. I finally realized that it was just a good old hot flash! My doctor put me on HRT at 10 days and I haven't had a symptom since other than dry eye.

You might want to call your doctors office to schedule an appt. to discuss HRT now instead of waiting.
