Re: Help
At two weeks post op you shouldn't be doing too much. Be sure you are following your doctor's instructions as to what activities are/are not allowed. Are these cramps new or have you been experiencing them since surgery? Please call your doctor and let him or her know how you are feeling. In the meantime, perhaps ibuprofen and or Tylenol might help.

Re: Help - 2 weeks post hysterectomy and cramping.
The cramping may be inflammation and swelling at your newly formed vaginal cuff. Make sure you are following your doctor's orders, (no lifting more than 10#, no pushing, pulling, vacuuming, sweeping, pushing a shopping cart. Not too much bending or stretching) having regular bowel movements, drinking enough water and eating healthy foods. Try resting with your feet up, ice on your belly and in your underwear (some women use frozen veggies, I swore by a water soaked, frozen maxi pad), and either ibuprofen or Aleve to reduce the inflammation, swelling and ease the pain, with regular short walks around your home.
If you don't feel better after that, or if you are bleeding so much you are soaking a maxi pad in under an hour, please call your doctor.
Best wishes!

Re: Help - 2 weeks post hysterectomy and cramping.
I had the most horrible, debilitating cramping for weeks following my surgery. I literally felt like I was going to die (and often wanted to). It turned out that the cramping was caused by the stool softeners the doctors insisted I take. The minute I quit taking them the cramping stopped, thankfully.
When I went back for my 2 week post-op check-up, my doctor insisted that I go back to taking the stool softener again (even though I was suffering from diarrhea) so I did. One dose and I was in so much pain from cramps that I cried all night...so that was the last dose I ever took and I never had another cramp. I did have all kinds of other weird and stabby pains but never another cramp.
So if by any chance you are taking a stool softener (like Ducolax or Colace)...it could very well be the source of your pain. Senna or Miralax are both great alternatives if some type of bowel assistance is needed.

Help - 2 weeks post hysterectomy and cramping.
I would actually recommend against taking senna, because it's also a stmulant, which can cause cramping. If you want to take something for your bowels, try magnesium, which can help to get things moving without the cramping; food sources include leafy greens, whole grains, nuts and seeds, and dark chocolate. Also, if you kept your ovaries, you may still experience cramping around the time that you'd get your period; what happens is that the body produces prostaglandins that would stimulate your uterus to expel the blood, and they can also stimulate your intestinal tract. Magnesium can help with that, as can taking ibuprofen. Best wishes for your continued recovery!
