Premarin

After having sweats and hot and cold spells, I had my endochrinologist test me. She Recommended Premarin for symptom releif. So did my Gyn after a consult. I am not prepared for this and do not have a clue as to what to expect on this drug. She said a low dose. I declined for now as I am chicken. I am on several other meds For Bipolar and also thyroid and acne. I have weight problems and have heard some talk about that , but i dont know wha t else and if it helps.Any help sisters? Thanks

I started on Premarin a week ago and I love it! My night sweats are just "warm" moments now (dr. says it will get better) and I don't have any hot flashes during the day anymore.

I am not on any other meds like you are but I have been dropping weight steadily since I have been taking it. It might be a coincidence that my swelling is going down and I am increasing my walking but at least it isn't making me gain.

Love my premarin!!!!! My mom has been on prempro for years and swears by it. There is so much more to consider than hot flashes, I truly believe that hrt keeps you looking GREAT and feeling better. You can spot a woman who has gone through menopause (and that is what a total hysterectomy causes) and doesn't take hormones; they start to look like little old ladies and some even look like little old men (didn't mean to be nasty). My mom is 66 and looks better and is more fit than some of my 40 something friends. Could be genetics but I truly think the hormones help!!!!!!!!! Regardless of the possible side effects I am willing to chance it and have a better "quality" of life.

I think it is genetics. And before taking any medicines, I think everyone should research them to be sure they know what they are taking and the possible side effects.

I've been on Premarin since the 3rd day post-op. So far I've not felt side effects but I'm beginning to feel better from the menopause. I was sweating badly and there were times I thought I might catch fire for a few days till it all started leveling out. I was also getting really weepy and moody but that's better as well. Now I'm thankfull my dr perscribed and suggested I start it right away he told me that I'd feel the effects of the surgery within days and he was right. I'll be keeping close tabs on my use but so far I'm keeping it!

To take HRT is a very personal choice. There is a lot to think about, side effects, risks, etc. You can find a lot of comprehensive information out there. You can get pharmacutical (SP?) HRT, Biodentical and you can go natural. Different HRTs are made different ways, some with the urine of pregnant mares, some with soy, etc.. www.rxdruglist.com can give you lots of info. For the record I am on Estrace 1mg, I started that the day after surgery, and have increased it to 2mg (one in the am & one in the pm) and I honestly feel much better now.
