WIll this feeling of regret pass?

I had my SAH/BS three weeks ago, and I am trying not to regret having it done.

There are two hard veins in my hand (from the I.V.), one extending up my arm. I know this is probably superficial phlebitis, but I hate not knowing if they will ever go back to normal. I have been using heat and taking Ibuprofen, and it's been three weeks.

Then there is the odd numbness.....I still can't feel the outside of my left thigh, and the lovely new "roll of pudge" that sits on top of my incision is numb as well. Even if it never goes away...I would like to be able to FEEL it!

It could be I am having hormonal issues, coupled with pre-existing depression, but does anyone have words of encouragement? I am hoping that these issues will resolve soon, but it would be nice to hear from some veteran princesses.

Thanks and Merry Christmas.

Re: WIll this feeling of regret pass?

I am sorry that you are having these problems and having feelings of regret. Please give it some time. I know it has been 3 wks +. I think that most veterans will agree that it takes at least 6 wks to get back to feeling semi-normal. Hang in there! Best wishes!! I am feeling great, and I have no regrets. I am hoping that you will feel the same, shortly!!

Re: WIll this feeling of regret pass?

I did not have the abdominal surgery, but vaginal so I do know about the incision side of things. I had the phlebitis after surgery beginning of this year, twice. The second time I hd a large number of blood clots in my hand and wrist. Also a large red line to my elbow, it really hurt and lasted a long time. Cooling helped me. It took about four months for the clots to dissolve. Be sure if sure (if you have future surgery - I hope not) to tell the hospital staff you had this problem.

I was now given a smaller IV ( which was a bit of a hassle because it kept closing up) and not to much stuff was put seperately through the IV because it is too aggressive on you veins. I had mo prblems this time. Good luck wuth healing, it will get better.

Re: WIll this feeling of regret pass?

hello drie123,
i am 10 weeks post op and i still have feelings of regret.hard to explain because i know long term it is the best thing i will have done but i think as women we aren't prepared to not be able to function 'normally' for a time.then again with the problems that led us to having surgery we probably haven't functioned normally anyway!!
physically i am starting to feel better.i can certainly walk better than before...am not carrying a 'sack of spuds' round with me anymore.
i aim to lose some weight in the new year and go back to the gym.
i feel i can now look to the future now and you will too...
look after yourself...it is still early days for you....
much love..xx

Re: WIll this feeling of regret pass?

Thank you everyone! It's nice to hear that things will get better. I must say, I get more from this site than my own doctor!

He has never said anything other than "don't do any crunches..ha ha". So I was going up and down stairs, vacuuming, etc. Then I learned from this site about adhesions so now I am freaking out about that. I pray that if I get them, they won't cause problems in the future.

I wish I had found this site earlier... there is no better support for women in our situation than this site and these awesome ladies
