Question about mood swings

Hello all, I had my hysterectomy on jan. 6th, so I'm almost 6 wks post op. Not sure of all the abbreviations, but I had a laparoscopic total hysterectomy and a bladder sling placement. The question I have is about mood swings. The doc left my ovaries, but boy, I seem pretty irritable. I'm not sure if it's because I'm tired and my 11 month old has taken to not sleeping in his crib and only sleeping with mom and dad, or if it's because I'm doing way too much or if it's a hormonal issues. Any insight?

Re: Question about mood swings

I had a TVH (total vaginal hysterectomy), BSO (bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy), AP (anterior posterior) repair and TOT bladder sling on 01/12/10. I actually have not found myself to be irritable, which has been a blessing; however, I am wondering how much this might change when I go back to work and get tired. I would get very irritable before surgery when I was tired (didn't realize how much until after surgery). It sounds like you've got a lot going on and it could be a combination of doing too much as well as hormonal issues. If it's really bothering you, check with your doctor and see what he/she thinks. Hope you can get some rest and feel better soon.

Re: Question about mood swings

I had a TAH. I have found in the later weeks that I become irritable quickly. In review it could be my expectation of others in the home while I am recuperating. Or even, how quickly I get fatigued and occasional soreness.

Take moments for yourself and time to be healthy.

Re: Question about mood swings

Thank you ladies. I'm guessing it's more emotional than hormonal. It seems as though the better you feel, the less others do to help you and maybe that's causing my crankiness. I lifted the baby yesterday and OUCH! I'm hurting bad today. Little scared to be on my own 4 days next week but overall I'm just thankful that this too shall pass. Hopefully it's not hormonal since I figured I would be done with PMS feelings!
