surgery is for May 8 instead May 6

Hello Ladies; Your web site has helped me alot these past few weeks knowing that my surgery is for a TAH/BSO. for May 8. Should I worry about how I should feel after surgery? What about getting up after surgery? and going up and down stairs?
I know don't eat or drink after midnight before the surgery. Should I eat heavy or light on Tuesday night's supper. My mother is going to be with me. I am 46 yrs old. And I have had trouble with my periods for over 2 yrs. And it is time to end it all so I don't have so much trouble. Let me hear from all of you Please.......Will keep you all posted on how I am doing and after the surgery.... sally

Hi, Sally -

Personally, I'd eat lightly, but you might want to ask your doctor. That's great that your mother will be there to help you!

Generally, they will get you up pretty quickly, though it varies. I was up and standing for a few minutes within 12 hours of my surgery, and walking around the next day. You definitely want to get up and walk around (standing up straight) as soon as they'll let you. Walking, along with drinking lots of fluids, is very important generally and specifically to help you get your insides moving again, and help you pass gas (which they usually want you to do before leaving the hospital).

I felt very good after surgery (morphine does wonders :-)). Depending on the type of anesthesia and your reactions to it, that could be different for you. I was busy talking to friends on the phone in the afternoon!

I didn't have to tackle stairs, but you will want to go slowly and hold on to something at first, for sure!

Think of how wonderful it will be to end the troubles you've had!
