pain

Three days post op and I am finding it painful to sit, stand, walk, lay down, and especially go to the bathroom. I had a TVH with a LSO,cyctocele repair, rectocele repair, and enterocele repair as well as a cystoscopy. The doctor also told me I would have the foley catheter for at least week but could have it for 2-4 weeks depending on how I do. I am trying to be brave and not use too many pain meds as I only enough for 4-5 days. I can't sleep in the and recliner just doesn't cut it all night. I also have very painful bms with bright red bleeding. I never knew it could hurt this bad just to go to the bathroom.

I have a wonderful husband who is hovering. He is so supportive and helpful. But it hurts so much its hard for me to let him near me even if it is just to help me stand. Yesterday I started crying and can't seem to stop.

I just want to know if this is normal. Is there anything I can do that might easy the pain? Help, I feel I am going crazy.

Re: pain

Rclark,
I'm so sorry you are in pain. It will get better. The bm problems are common...I would encourage you to take stool softeners, drink lots of water, and try not to strain. I had a TVH with enterocele and rectocele repairs, and the worst part of my early recovery was having regular BMs. I also took a half dose of Senokot each day for the first few weeks. I'm 13 weeks post op, and I feel so much better! Rest, rest, rest, and call your doctor with questions or to get more pain meds if you need them...
Sending hugs to you

Re: pain

Take the pain medication, really, although it does slow down the bms, being in pain will increase your stress hormones and make your healing harder and your emotions more difficult. Those who suffer from chronic pain (my husband, my brother in law) struggle with stress and emotions because of it. Your doctor can help you with a schedule to take the narcotic alternating with non narcotic, plus the stool softener plan to help the bms come out. You had a lot of work done very recently and pain is going to need to be managed, your doctor is there to help you.

Big hugs!!

Re: pain

Rclark, I'm 2 weeks post op with similar procedures as you and feeling much better than I did at 3 days post op. up until day 5 or so I felt like I had gotten run over by a Mac truck and cried daily wondering if I would ever feel like myself again. I had my catheter for 10 days post op waiting for my bladder to recover. But from what I've learned only 10 days is very fortunate. Healing comes, slowing but It does come. Take care of yourself and rest.
