Restless Legs?

I suffer from Restless Legs Syndrome and PLM at night. Lately, my legs are driving me crazy - I'm sure the stress is making it worse.

My question is, have any other princesses had surgery AND suffered from RLS? If so, do you have any tips to offer??? ~ Thanks.

Restless Legs?

I'm not quite the same as you....my mom's side of the family have all suffered from RLS and I know heredity is a big factor. Well, after my TVH on March 3, I developed RLS. I tried to just "deal" with it by walking before sleeping, taking Tylenol, etc. but it didn't really help. On this website I found lots of info about women developing RLS after a hyst, but my gyn didn't put any stock in that. I went to my GP last Thursday, and he agreed with me that RLS could be a result of my hyst, coupled with my heredity factors. He prescribed Permax. I'm sorry I can't remember the actually name of the med. I took it that night and immediately started throwing up! I talked to his assistant yesterday and had the doctor call in a different prescription. So tonight I'm starting on something else (starts with an L). Hopefully I'll have a better reaction! The one good thing about my experience is that I didn't have the restless legs the two nights I was in the hospital, nor for the first several nights at home. I was probably close to a week post-op before they began to bother me. So maybe your symptoms won't be as severe right after surgery? One can hope!

Restless Legs?

Thanks ImOK & Mosie7,

I did a sleep study 10 years ago. A diagnosis is 5 movements in one hour - I had 70! I've dealt with this for a decade now so I'm fairly familiar with things. I know low iron makes it worse and I am anemic right now - so that's part of my problem. I'm just afraid it will be worse after surgery - I need to sleep. Maureen - good luck finding the right meds. There are many natural remedies - but if your symptoms are severe enough they may not work. I currently take mirapex and clonazepam at night. That and a hot bath have helped in the past. I'll miss my hot baths.

I did get a newsletter from RLS.org with a brochure on surgery with RLS. I gave it to my GYN which was good, because she said she would have used some of the meds that the brochure said would make my symptoms worse - now she'll use different ones.

I'll keep researching and see if I can find any other advice. I don't have a sleep disorder doc where I live now - wish I had gotten one sooner. My internist prescribes the meds.

Restless Legs?

Hi MyMacey! I have had restless legs since my first pregnancy. I find that I have to make sure I don't let myself get over-tired or else I'm up walking the floors. I Googled it and found some sites with some solutions:

http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/r...tless_legs.htm

http://www.wemove.org/rls/default.htm

Hope this helps some.
