Pre Op in5 days Scared n Nervous!!!

Really getting emotional and anxious. I'm scheduled for Pre Op this Thursday and my surgery is Nov 6. Still struggling emotionally and scared about the surgery. I have a friend that just had her LAVH 2wks ago. She is still having problems with pain and the hormones . Mostly, the hot flashes , night sweats and very emotional . The Dr. has changed her hormoes 3 x's now. This is not helping me with my anxieties. So! I'm hoping everything goes better for me following the surgery. I know everyone is different. But I'm still worried. I'm guessing these are all normal feelings . Help!

Re: Pre Op in5 days Scared n Nervous!!!

Pai nis expected at 2 weeks post-op,but should be graudally showing improvement. I'm not sure why your friend's Dr has changed her hormones 3 time in 2 weeks, it was my understanding it takes a few weeks to know if 1 is going to work for your or not, unless you just have a horrid reaction to it.

Are you keeping an ovary or not?? Hormone balance can be tricky after this sugery.

This surgery is a very emotional one and it is very normal, we would probably be concerned if you were emotionless about it

I will say, the waiting and what-ifs really have been the worst part of this surgery and I have had a complication that only happens in a very small percentage of women.

You have found a fabulous place for support and wisdom. Welcome to Hystersisters. We will do all that we can to help you along your journey. Hugs to you

Re: Pre Op in5 days Scared n Nervous!!!

Being scared and nervous is very normal with this surgery. It is MAJOR SURGERY and a VERY BIG DEAL. Of course you are upset and emotional.

Regarding pain, everyone is different. I was on pain med for 3 weeks post-op but is was controllable.

Regarding hormones, I did not start them until about three months after surgery. I was 46 at the time of my TAH BSO and wanted to see if I could do surgical menopause without hormones. I was way too miserable. My GP put me on low dose oral estrogen, and the first dose tried worked!

Getting the hormone balance right can be tricky, though, but it can just take some time. Usually, they find the right combination after a while.
