Re: How long

The nurses told me as long as i was passing gas, I could move from a clear liquid diet to more solid food.

I started with a greens type meal replacement (think smoothie). Then light salads and fruit. Focus on foods rich in fiber to help with upcoming bm's

Re: How long

Sorry, to answer your question, that was on the first day after surgery day. (Our hospital does not include surgery day as Day 1.)

Re: How long

I was so nauseated from the anesthesia and they tried to make me eat solid food, I couldn't! The thought of the abdominal pain from throwing up made me stick to my guns! Luckily I was fine. After 4 days in the hospital, my husband made me toast with lots of butter and blackraspberry jam, when I got home. That was my first solid food and it was so good like as if he made me a steak and baked potato!!! Once you start to eat solid food, I found that taking a stool softener every morning allowed all of my bowel movements easy and no pain. Hope you are doing well!!!

Re: How long

Eating bland foods still. Don't think I could handle more than that.

Re: How long

I was ready for regular food right away. At the hospital about 6 hours after surgery I had a chicken breast, mashed potatoes etc.

My biggest problem was dry mouth and throat.

Re: How long

I was cleared for a regular diet immediately after surgery. I was blessed to have NO nausea, mostly due to some really good drugs!

Real food will come soon enough, and you may find that your appetite isn't what it was. Mine was quite diminished for about two weeks after my hyst.

Good to see you posting. So, are you still at the castle, or are you home?

Re: How long

I started with some bland foods as the pain medicaiton gave me some nausea. But by the 4th day I could eat everything and craved yogurt, which I never ate much, and saltines. I also took a stool softner which helped alot...Walking around the house was the best for the gas problem.
