Thank you so much for all of the thorough information. Now, I feel very blessed to be getting the spinal. Wondering why they don't do it this way as a standard procedure.
Tomorrow is the big day for me.

As with any treatment or procedure, there are pros and cons that have to be considered. Additionally, neither a spinal or epidural are appropriate for all surgery types. Finally, not all people are comfortable with having a needle and/or catheter inserted into their spine!

I hope your surgery goes well!

So true! I'd rather deal with the throwing up than a needle in my back!!!!!!

Re: Just realized my doctor says I will have a spinal. Is that like an epidural?

I had an epidural for a surgery years ago and the absolute paranoia of not being able to feel anything from the waste down for most of the day was horrible. I'd never get one again. It actually was a great form of pain control, just had some kind of panic/anxiety reaction so it scared me.If it wasn't for that I'd have to say it was great. I didn't even really notice the whole needle in the spine part , as my doctor numbed it first a bit.

I'll remember that just in case I ever have to have one! Thanks
