10 days post hysterectomy: kept ovaries, hot flashes?

It is not uncommon for the ovaries to "sleep" or "go into shock". The reason is that the uterine artery which provides the major blood supply for most women's ovaries is severed during hysterectomy. It can take a while for the ovaries to reestablish a proper blood supply for them to function properly. The ovaries still have the ovarian artery and may learn to rely on it more fully as well as making other adjustments. Until then, you may feel some menopause symptoms. The amount of time it take for the ovaries to "wake up" depends on how much your ovaries depended on the uterine artery and other factors. If you find that a couple months have passed and you are not feeling better, please contact your doctor. Otherwise, in there a little longer and give them time to wake up. This is not at all uncommon.
