6 week checkup tomorrow, worried about returning to work.

Tomorrow I go for my 6-week check-up (TAH/BSO 7/7/08). I feel great. I breezed through this thing like it was a cake-walk. My hubby has been a wonderful support and is always asking if I'm ok. He is the best

My problem is work. My dr will tell me tomorrow when I will return. I have a high-stress job. To give you an idea, my company has been labled "shark-infested waters". I know they will be on me like white on rice and I'm not ready for the pressure and stress. I'm going to ask my Dr. to send me back part time at first. I don't want to even think about being hit with 40 hours of badgering right off the bat. When I get stressed out, I get exhausted. Should I mention this to my Dr tomorrow? I don't want to sound like I'm "whining" about my job.

I would definitely mention it to your doctor. All jobs are not created equal, and how much stress you have should determine how soon and how heavily you return to work. My doctor actually let one patient go back at 2 weeks, but she had a desk job without much stress and was a single mom who desperately needed the income. I never could have returned at 2 weeks! I'm going back at 4.5 weeks, but I have a very understanding supervisor. Definitely ask the doctor if he will limit you to part-time your first two weeks back!

6 week checkup tomorrow, worried about returning to work.

YES TELL YOUR DOCTOR!!! I went for my 6 week check and was cleared to go back to work. I felt I wasn't ready and asked for 2 more weeks which he gave me. I do wish I had also asked to go back part time for a month. I am an xray tech, which is stressful not only mentally but physically as well. I am now 6 months out and still careful about lifting, etc. You don't want to overdo it and set yourself back.

6 week checkup tomorrow, worried about returning to work.

Im calling my Dr Tomorrow to ask him to send me back with restrictions and part time. I work for a military child development center as a lead teacher 3-4 yr olds and I know Im not up to all of that up and down and holding kids all day. But Financially I need to get back. I have used all of my sick leave except 25 hrs and I can't afford to not have any money coming in. My husband is about to retire from the army in less than 30 days. So Ive got to do what Ive got to do. Good luck to you. ( Im almost 4 weeks post op) and I feel great!

Definitely talk with your doctor about the stress you face at work!! I would recommend the return to work half days at first. I hope all goes well for you! Keep us posted, especially once you are back to work.
Love and hugs to you!!

6 week checkup tomorrow, worried about returning to work.

I go back tomorrow (Aug 18th) - I am a HR Admin in a retail store (major one throughout the country). I am looking forward to going back - I know I'm still healing but thankfully my job is mostly a desk job.

This is not the stressful time of year for me, that's coming up shortly though. I have one important project to work on which is due by the first of next week. I also travel to Atlanta with my boss on Thursday for an all day meeting regarding the holiday season preparations - with travel it will be a 14 hour day.

If I felt in any way I could not go back, I wouldn't. Your dr. will work with you on this.

You were right. My dr. worked with me on this. My return to work date is 9/2 - 2 more weeks. I wil go back right after Labor Day weekend so it will be a short week anyway which works out great. I asked if I should go back sooner and work part time and she said "No, I highly advise you take the 2 additional full weeks". The good part is that my Dr. also had a TAH/BSO 3 years ago so she would know better than most doctors. I feel great about this and I know I will be ready in 2 weeks.

Thank you everyone for listening
