3 days post-op and diaper rash
Hi All,
First posting on the post op board! I'm doing really well, except I've developed a nasty rash across my buttocks. It's red, angry and itchy like an allergic reaction, but I can't figure out what it's from. I haven't used any different soap, cleaners etc. Could it be from something the Dr used in surgery? Could it be from the Cholace she prescribed as a stool softner? And who should I call if it doesn't clear up, my GYN or GP?
Oh well, it's only a little pebble in my road to recovery...

3 days post-op and diaper rash
i've heard of morphine causing itchy ness - though i guess it could be a reaction to almost any pain med or unfamiliar substance - maybe even the starch in the hopsital sheets. Hopefully it won't last long - i'm sure either your gyn or your dr will give you good advice.
Take care

I got a rash all over my body...I was allergic to Percocet, a pain killer they gave me in the hospital.
Also...If you are wearing Nylon...panties or nightgown. it does not 'breath', as cotton does.
So sitting on it all the time ,the moisture from your body, will cause diaper rash
Just a thought.

I had a rash in my armpits for about a month after surgery. I didn't itch until about 3 weeks later when it started to heal. I figured it was from the medication or anesthesia.

Saw a product on Oprah which may help -- Boudreaux's Butt Cream. Think they have it at major drugstores. Might be worth a try if Benadryl cream doesn't help.

3 days post-op and diaper rash
Hi Ary,
That happend to me also about 3 or 4 days out. I think it was from being in bed more than I was used to.
I applied an ointment called, Aquaphor, made by Eucerin to the rash and it cleared it up right away. It's also very soothing.
Take care,
Luvmabug

You should give your doctor a call. Are you currently on any antibiotics orally? Sometimes the antibiotics can cause a reaction, but they can also cause a yeast skin infection and it looks like diaper rash. (My DD's both got yeast diaper rash as babies and the doctor gave me a lotrimin cream for it.)
I had a yeast skin rash 5 days post-op. It was scarlett red and itchy, but in the pubic area. Mine was from the antibiotics during surgery and post-op. I took Diflucon and used a nystantin cream the GYN prescribed and all is well now.
Don't treat it yourself without at least running it by your doctor first. You are so fresh from surgery, you don't want to do anything to compromise your recovery.

I suffered from the same thing ....mine was from being in the hospital bed with a johnnie shirt and no undies( because of catheter) I was only in castle for 2 and 1/2 days but it got really sore....and like the nurses said the hospital laundry detergent is not the mildest. After I got home and treated it ,it went away and doesnt bother me anymore.

I had the same rash.... I was able to clear it by using Balmex {baby diaper rash ointment}.

Thanks for your replies. It's probably from the hospital sheets and the fibrous pad they had me laying on. I'm using Benadryl cream now, and it seems to be helping.
