Pelvic Floor Pain Specialists

My Dr. just suggested I may need to see a pelvic pain specialist. She said there is a great woman in Blatimore. Problem is I live in PA. Has anyone ever seen a pelvic pain specialist? What do they do for you, are they any better than a regular pain specialist? I'd imagine they are since they concentrate on one area. But please, any advice would be greatly appreciated. OR if anyone knows of any in OA, that'd be great. Going to Baltimore is a bit of a hike.

Re: Pelvic Floor Pain Specialists

This site has a search engine to look for local pelvic pain specialists.

My uro-gynecologist is a pelvic pain specialist. They have had extra training to help them determine exactly what might be causing a woman to have pelvic pain. Because of his knowledge and training my specialist was able to figure out that an oversized uterus and pelvic organ prolapse were only part of the reason for my pelvic pain. I also have interstitial cystitis. This discovery has allowed me to change my diet which has helped considerably with symptoms.

Re: Pelvic Floor Pain Specialists

thank you Witchy1, I wasn't aware that this site had an area to search for pelvic pain specialists. Thank you for the information you gave in regards to them. My dr. wants me to go to one because she doesn't think my pain is related to the mesh..(which I this is bologna, since I've never had pain since I had this put in) I was tested for IC and do not have it. But she did say many women present with pelvic pain even if they have never had surgeries and the specialist may be able to determine where the pain is coming from. She also doesn't think i have nerve damage which I do not think I have either.
Thanks for taking the time to post.

I don't know that Hystersisters has an area, but if you click on the word "site" In my post it will link through to pelvicpain.org.
I hope this helps.

Re: Pelvic Floor Pain Specialists

I have a pelvic pain specialist and She is really good at knowing what works on relaxing your pelvic muscles and pain remedy . I definitely recommend it . I had to travel 1200 klm's to see her so don't feel bad if you have to travel. This is often the case. She has recommended , light yoga for core strengthening , and acupuncture and acupressure. I hope this helps somewhat..
