1st, 2nd, 3rd Opinion...ADVICE

Okay, sisters, I've had 3 opinions and they all agree. A TAH (removal of uterus and cervix) due to fibroids is best for me. I just wanted to make sure that I was doing what's best for me. I most say that having being told by two others doctor that my gynae (who I trust) made the best diagnosis for me has eased my mind. I am more at peace with my decision to have my hysterectomy. However, I expect to get more nervous as my date approaches. Right now am doing some retail therapy to get ready.

Oh, I still have to tell my 15 year old son that I have to have surgery. I would love some advice on how to go about doing that.

Butterfly1857,

Three opinions all in agreement! You need to trust your doc but second opinions are a great idea, good for you.

Here is a link to a HS article that may be of use to you talking to your son.

Hope this helps, good luck .

You will be nervous but talk to people you trust. I made myself sick to my stomach for weeks and couldn't sleep worrying about this. Now I'm better. And on the subject of how to tell your son. I have no advice. I had my husband tell our 22-year-old son because I couldn't bear the thought of that conversation. My husband told him I was having "some plumbing work done" My son took it to mean I was having my tubal reversed and went off telling his wife and others that Mom and Dad want more kids so mom's having surgery. We had a great laugh at his expense. BTW I told my dgtr-in-law and she got to set him straight. LOL

Patty, thanks for the link. It was a little helpful. I wish they had a scenario that included a teenager.

Cindy,
That's why my spouse won't be telling our son.

Thanks for the advice!!

I'm leaning more towards something like... I'm having female problems that's causing me to have surgery. Hopefully, this surgery will get rid of my female problems and my "stomach issues". It's the truth but don't have alot of specifics. But if he asks for specifics I'll give him more like...fibroids and hysterectomy. BUT only if he needs it.

That sounds great Butterfly1857. That is basically what my husband told the people at work; I don't know why he went stupid with our son.

I have a 14 year old son and I was also planning on giving basics ...I will give details if he asks for them. My girls are 11 and 8 I will also give vague info and then give more info as they ask questions. I hope that I am doing the right thing with my info to my children.

Reann,
I hope I am doing the right thing with my son. I have 3 months to go before surgery. I can't keep side-stepping his why questions. Why do you need a body pillow? Why do you need a step stool for your bed? Why..???
So I'm going to tell him soon. I hope that's the right thing to do.
All I can do is pray about it.
Stay Strong Sisters!!

Re: 1st, 2nd, 3rd Opinion...ADVICE

I have a 16 yo son and told him I was having a hysterectomy. He asked me what all that involves, and I told him they would be removing my uterus, tubes and ovaries as well as a bladder lift. I told him I wouldn't have to run to the bathroom any more or go as much (my kids used to give me a hard time because I would have to go so often, but they can't do that any more!). I figured he knew about all the body parts from his health classes and he's a very level headed kid so was open and honest. Once I told him he never asked again and has been a huge help around the house along with my DH. Good luck!

Joining4Support,
I was wondering if I should tell him I was having a hysterectomy. My son is very bright. He would definitely Google it the next time he was on the computer. I'm thinking I'll just be honest and play it my ear.
Thanks for the advice!
