pain meds before surgery

I was just wondering what pain meds some of you have taken before surgery. Here I am at 5:45 in the morning (I have been awake since 4) and I can't sleep AGAIN because of the pain. Aunt flo just visited and it seemed like the worst painwise that I have had. I have pelvic and back pain chronically and just wondered what others have done to control their pain before their surgery. BTW my surgery is a very long 2 weeks away still.

I was in so much pain for so long I had a perscription for Vicodin ES which I took off and on for about 6 years. Nothing otc would even come close to touching the pain. If you have to go otc try Aleeve

What have you taken in the past to relieve the pain?

I would call your doctor. Since your surgery is two weeks away, maybe he can prescribe something to get you through till your surgery.

My pain was so bad prior to my surgery that my dr. prescribed Vicoden 5mg, which only took the edge off.

my dr gave me celebrex for the extreme cramping and it helped, I also had the hydrocodone 500mg but took it at night.

My doc gave me samples of a very old drug called Ponstel. This med is a hyped up Ibuprofen. I was working till the day before and could not take narcotics and work. This drug took the edge off without the fog head you get with heavy duty drugs.

Since you can't take ibuprofen for several weeks prior to surgery, you might want to ask your dr for a percoset prescription...

My Dr. said no aleve also, I would definately call for a RX. I had Vicoden which barely touched my pain and made me sooooo itchy. I'm with you that this period was the worst for pain, our uterus' want to give us one more time to remember them by.....lest we ever forget here's a big Take Care!
