Home from castle a few tips to know before

Hi,

Had TAH w/ cervix and ovaries removed on 3/10. Came home 3/12 (maybe a little early but had to get out of there!!) Its been a tough haul, but some tips worth repeating....chap stick was a life saver along with a DVD player and your favorite music. Definitely have your pick up person bring a pillow for the ride home.

One thing I wish I had gotten ahead of time would be like a crib size pillow to keep against your belly. They took off the bandage on my incision (34 staples) the morning I was discharged and I have felt "loose" since then. The bandage kept my belly feeling tight but it needs to come off so the incision can heal. I'm currently using a folded towel but a small pillow would feel nice.
Also, it really helps to use this small pillow to gently press against your belly while using the toilet the first few times (will get to that in post op later!!)

I'm 47 years old and in pretty good shape, but these past few days have been tough. Keep drinking water and walk to get those bowels moving. The gas pains are horrendous but think of them as a stepping stone to your first BM. Had mine last night at 7:15pm. Make sure you have a round the clock caregiver for at least the first 2-3 days home. I almost passed out and don't know what I would have done if my daughter and husband were not there to grab me.

Will keep you updated in post up when feeling a little better. It can only get better from here!!!
