You should have received instructions from your doctor upon discharge from the hospital, but normal restrictions call for no for 6 weeks, or until the doctor okays it at your post op checkup. Let the kids do the vacuuming for a little while longer. They probably enjoy helping.

VACUMMING!! NEVER! you have kids that can move the contraption let them have at it! since my surgery i have neither vacumed washed floors, or PUT MY KIDS LAUNDRY AWAY!! WOO HOOO LESS DUTIES. So what if they do not do as well as you do just make them do it more often eventually all the carpet will get vacumed! ENJOY HAVE A CUP OF COFFEE WHILE THEY VACUME!

when should I vacuum

I know what you mean!!! I LOVE to clean, & I can't wait to vacumn & scrub the walls down while I'm off work. Everyday I think "should I try it???" but I'm only 2wks p/o as of today, sooooo I better wait the 6wks like the Dr. told me. I did wash windows & hosed down the porch & patio & driveway yest & felt fine. My vacumn is an Oreck & only weighs 8lbs-----I don't see the difference between running this & stripping the sheets & remaking the bed------I think vacumning would be easier of the 2. This light duty is boring!!!

No, no, no, you should not be vacuuming until at least 6 weeks. No mopping or sweeping either. You use too much abdominal muscles to do these tasks and you could seriously hurt yourself. Let the kids vacuum and ignore the dirt. I still have not vacuumed and no one has mopped the kitchen floor for 6 weeks. The dirt will be there for when I'm ready.

Please take care of yourself!

when should I vacuum

My doctor didn't tell me if I could or not. He just said "If it hurts stop doing it"! I had a LAVH/BSO on August 9. Is it the same restrictions if I didn't have an abdominal hyster?

when should I vacuum

My doc said NO VACUMMING FOR 6 WEEKS.....that was before she decided......I won't be released for 8. She also said no mopping. I don't know exactly what vacumming has to do with anything. But it seems to be a forbidden activity for everyone. And I empathize with you. My DH and DD just kinda vacumme at it.......about 5 minutes that takes me 20. I don't have much carpet.....hardwood.

when should I vacuum

Absolutely no vacuuming!!! My doctor said that was the worst. And I was back to work 2 weeks post-op. He told me 8 weeks before doing the major housework. Dusting was ok, and I really hate dusting. Just told my family I couldn't do anything. They took care of things just fine. Not the way I do it of course, but all the same they tried, and I was grateful. I was allowed to go back to kick boxing, baby kicks, at 6 weeks, but still no vacuuming until 8. And no lifting anything at all first 2 weeks, and nothing heavier than gallon of milk for 6 weeks. Please, be careful, you don't want to make your recovery any longer than it has to be. Those things can wait. Good luck
