Hyst Scheduled!

I got the date yesterday! Hopefully, insurance will approve it. I'm worried a bit about that, I guess. But the dr. took pictures of my uterus and fibroids, and I have a history of fibroids through all my pregnancies and previous history of bleeding problems.

I couldn't believe how misshapen my uterus is from fibroids, and I also have adenomyosis he's pretty sure. I am not a good candidate for a vaginal hyst, which sounded an awful lot like giving birth again anyway. For a moment, I thought he was talking about a TAH, but yea! I'm going to have an LSH, and I'll only be in the hospital overnight, with a supposed 2 week down time. I get to keep my right ovary, which should function another 5-8 years. I can also have lidocaine before the IV is inserted. I've had nightmares about that, and he told me to write pyrridium on my stomach the day of the surgery so that the catheterization process wouldn't be so uncomfortable! (He was joking, but I'm going to do it. I can't stand catheters.) He even said I could get rid of the catheter as soon as I could walk around. He is going to leave my cervix but cauterize it during surgery, and he said I'd only have a 5% chance of having mini-periods.

Now I'm worried because things are going too easy!

The cervix is part of the uterus, so when the cervix is left some of the endometrium cells may be left behind also. If the ovaries are also retained you will still be cycling and there is the possibility of "mini periods". It doesn't always happen, but it is a possibility. It can be a tiny bit of spotting or even enough to require a pad. If someone does have "mini periods" the cervix can be cauterized and that may eliminate them.

Hope this helps!
