Vaginal cuff and keeping ovaries

I tried to reply to someone's post in the post-op forum but since my surgery isn't until 10/19, I'm not allowed to post there. So, I'll ask my question here:

This may sound like a dumb question, but if you kept your ovaries and are still ovulating and there is a chance of a mini period, where does the blood go if they took your cervix out and you have a vaginal cuff?

Thanks,

Beth

Re: Vaginal cuff and keeping ovaries

You shouldn't have a mini period if they remove your cervix. The ladies who have them keep their cervix which is just the bottom part of the uterus, it isn't really a different organ.

Re: Vaginal cuff and keeping ovaries

The ovaries will simply produce hormones. The mini periods happen with women who keep the cervix, as they leave some uterine tissue behind for support. Good luck with your surgery!

Re: Vaginal cuff and keeping ovaries

If you keep your cervix and at least one ovary, you may experience a mini-period. If this is the case you can ask your doctor to cauterize your cervix to prevent this.

If you keep one or both ovaries but have your cervix removed you will not bleed as there is no uterus.
