Still bleeding ....

I had my hysterectomy in Sept 18. Everything was perfect until 3 weeks post op, I sneezed and it brought me to my knees. 5 days later I ended up in the ER. I left the next day with a draining tube in my butt cheek. I guess I busted some stitches inside and started bleeding. It had no where to go and a very large hematoma developed and eventually I started bleeding like crazy.

I am still bleeding...its over 7 weeks post op. I have had 2 check ups, Dr says I am healing just find and I will stop bleeding. But when? Has anyone else bled for this long? My bottom is getting a rash from wearing pads for over a month. I just want to know that it does end...I feel great, minus the bleeding.

Re: Still bleeding ....

Oh no! That sounds terrible :-( I'm really sorry you are dealing with this.
I had a hematoma on the vaginal cuff that was discovered 10 days postop. It bled out slowly over a period of three weeks. My doctor thought it would take one week. I think it's really hard to tell when these things will resolve. I know I got overly fixated on the one week and felt like there was something terribly wrong when it had not stopped. I was told that as long as it did not get worse and no fever developed, there wasn't much I could do. When I went in for my four week check up, it was gone. I was shedding stitches like crazy which resulted in spotting and yellow discharge but the hematoma had cleared up. I am now just over the six week mark and still spotting and having yellow discharge. I am definitely not back to normal and try to remember that in the short-term, a couple of weeks seems like an eternity but in the long term it really means nothing.

Hopefully this makes you feel a little bit better. There are others of us not back to our old selves at some magical six-week mark! I hope you're bleeding stops soon and maybe some Vaseline type ointment on your bottom will help? I'm also a big fan of coconut oil!! Its soothing and smells good :-) also a natural antibacterial and antiviral! :-)

Re: Still bleeding ....

Hoping your recovery gets back on track. In my third week of recovery, I had a day of vomiting. I was scared to death, and an emotional wreck. Thankfully, no bleeding but, the pressure and swelling all came back. My body recovered from this event quicker than my mind.

Keep us posted. Really do care how you are doing. All the best to you.

Re: Still bleeding ....

Let your Dr know about the rash. In the nursing home we do some good ol fashion air time for red bottoms. Then sleep on the side and I am amazed at the humans body's ability to heal. We are fearfully and wonderfully made.
