TVH Experiences?
I've read about the procedure itself, and I've talked to some that had LAVH, but I haven't had any first hand info about TVH. I'd really like to hear from someone that's had it, like...
Pain...how intense? where? how long?
activity...how long before you resumed normal activity, what were your restrictions? how long before you felt back to 100%
recovery...what were the after effects you experienced?

TVH Experiences?
Hi,
I had a TVH. The pain I experienced was when I woke up in recovery and it felt like bad cramps. The pain was basically gone for me after the recovery room nurse put some Demerol in my IV. I had a morphine PCA pump in my room, but I didn't use it. The anesthesia made me sick.
I personally felt good the day after surgery. I was weak and a little uncomfortable, but not in any real pain. The surgical position aggrevated a disc in my back and I had a bad backache for about 4 days, but after that, I felt fine.
My restrictions were no lifting, no baths, swimming, or hottubs, and nothing in vagina until released by my doctor. I wasn't allowed to drive for 2 weeks.
I didn't have to do a bowel prep, I didn't have a catheter, and I never had any discharge or bleeding after surgery.
This is just my experience. Everyone is very different. Some women have more pain than others and some restrictions are different. Some women will have bleeding/discharge for a few days to a few weeks following surgery. Your doctor may have you do a bowel prep and he/she may not.
Just remember that we are all different and we all have different experiences. I wish nothing but the best for you!
Best wishes!
s, Deb

Thanks, I feel ok about the anesthesia, I've been under before for my tubal with no ill effects. Your experience matches pretty much what my doc told me. Feeling tired and icky for about a week, pain equal to that after a vaginal birth. I have no idea yet what my preop will be like, It's 2 days before my surgery.

TVH Experiences?
I actually felt the surgery was fairly simple for me after reading all the other post ops of other people, I had an epideral and was not in any pain except the gas part of the recovery but other than that not really any more than I had after giving birth ... I was up and about in a few days not moving fast but was able to get about pretty easily ...I was back to doing alot of things by the end of the 2 1/2 week mark of course I had some better days than others like everyone else. I quit taking pain meds my 2nd day home. I think the majority of us suffered from the usual after surgery insomnia and bowel issues.

Hi,
First, best of luck to you. All experiences will be different, but here is mine.
No pain whatsoever. I had great anesthesia, a spinal with morphine given while I was conked out. No other pain meds needed after that, at all. I did have a cath, due to the bladder sling addition. I have been feeling great since the day after surgery, just really, really tired. Compared to 2 vag deliveries, one c-section and a gastric bypass, this was by far the easiest for me. I anticipate being really exhausted for the next 2 months, mostly due to the blood loss I experienced. I have been driving, shopping, going out to eat in small spurts, etc since a few days after surgery, but I do get a lot of rest in between.
I am going back to work after 3 weeks off. I feel very lucky to have had everything go so well. I hope all goes well for you too!
Best regards...

TVH Experiences?
I had a TVH 4 months ago. I had no pain and no gas pains either. I felt out of it the first 2 days after surgery, but for the most part I did very well. I stayed in bed alot and rested as much as I couLd. I tired easily and when I did, I layed back down. It was around my 3 month mark that I FINALLY stopped getting so tired ! I have had no complications, or bleeding or pain during my recovery. It has been a very good surgery for me. Best wishes to you and lots of 'S

TVH Experiences?
I am 5 weeks post op from a TVH. My experience was a good one. I had no bowel prep, and nothing after midnight the night before. I remember seeing the clock in the holding area at 7:20am, and then again at 9:50 in the recovery. I wouldn't say I had pain, more like discomfort. I had the morphine pump in recovery and the night of surgery, but did not really use it cause it made me nauseous. I had a catheter and packing until the morning after, once removed I was up and about and on my way home. I only took pain meds at night to sleep for the first two days. I spent the first two weeks doing nothing but resting, drinking water, and walking. I had driving restrictions for the first two weeks, and lifting and activity restrictions until my 6 week check. I returned to work at week 4 part time, and full time at week 5. I did not have any complications or repairs. It did however take 3 or 4 days to get the BM's back on track, but prune juice and stool softeners were helpful. I hope this is helpful. If you have any other questions please feel free to send me a private message. Best of luck.

TVH Experiences?
Hi, It's only been 6 days since my TVH. I had general anesthesia with the pain medication that's put in near your spine and keeps the pain down for around 20 hours (sorry can't remember what it's called). I was given Ibuprofen in the hospital, but nothing stronger. I had some minor pain for about three days, I would compare this to minor menstrual cramps. My doctor told me to take 600 mg Ibuprofen every four hours for the pain. Today, I hardly notice the pain while sitting, when I get up, I feel a little bit of pain which is probably from the vaginal cuff stitches. Mostly, I just feel very tired, today I have even felt a little light headed.
I am able to go up and down the stairs in my house once each day for the first week. As long as I put both feet on each step and take them slowly, it's really no problem. Last night was the first time to go anywhere in a car since coming home. I went to a restaurant, stayed for about 1 hour and was ready to come home, not really because of pain but mostly just getting tired sitting there and wanting to be back on my comfortable couch.
As far as after effects, I had some vomiting after the surgery due to anesthesia and I was given anti-nausea medicine, but it didn't help. I had a lot of itching due to the spinal pain medication. My blood pressure was very low following the surgery and I think it may still be low based on the way I'm feeling. I had night sweats (having to change my pj's) the first two nights home from the hospital, but none since.
I go to my gyn tomorrow for my 1 week post op. I'm hoping that he'll tell me I can drive soon.
I hope your surgery goes well, I will say a prayer for you.

TVH Experiences?
Thanks everyone, from what I'm reading, it looks like I can handle this on my own if need be. The biggest obstacle being driving restrictions and steps. My bedroom is upstairs, so I guess I'll be camping out downstairs during the day after all so I can supervise the kids. It seems a bit less intimidating now, the catheter I could really do without...lol

TVH Experiences?
I had a wonderful experience with my TVH. No pain whatsoever afterwards as I had an epidural in for 24 hours and I was able to visit with my family after I was in my room and called them to tell them I was feeling great. I was given a spinal and epidural at the same time and was awake (my choice) but I couldn't see anything going on because there was a sheet in front of my face. It was less of a pain then having a tooth worked on because I didn't feel a thing. Recovery was good. I rested a lot and made sure that I didn't sit to long. I was told that sitting afterwards could cause groin pain. I was told to limit sitting to no more than 20 minutes at a time. You can read my story at my homepage if you would like. If you are having a laporoscopic procedure then the only choice for anesthesia is general because a spinal/epidural won't reach as high as the chest where gas from the lap can rise. You can however request that an epidural can be put in while you are out so that you don't wake up with pain. Good luck to you.
