Referral Pain?

Ok, so I took the advicee of some of you ladies and finially called the doctor this afternnon. A (FINIALLY) very nice nurse named Cindy returned my call and told me that after all the methods I tried for what I have been considering constipation may be "REFERRAL PAIN". She said if this feeling doesn't go away after trying the Senakot-S tonight that I should be seen Wed.... Sigh..

Light Bledding (I figure from straining but husband hinks from doing too much. My daughter (8) says I do nothing..)

Cindy did say that my bowels and bladder should be resolving them selves but they are both still way off, 1 week post-op.

So what do you think Cindy means when she says referral pain?

I believe it may be called "REFERRED PAIN".

I found this for you -- Pain felt in one area of the body does not always represent where the problem is, because the pain may be referred there from another area. For example, pain produced by a heart attack may feel as if it is coming from the arm because sensory information from the heart and the arm converge on the same nerve cells in the spinal cord.


Pain can be referred because signals from several areas of the body often travel through the same nerve pathways going to the spinal cord and brain. For example, pain from a heart attack may be felt in the neck, jaws, arms, or abdomen. Pain from a gallbladder attack may be felt in the back of the shoulder.
