Da Vinci vs. TLH

What is the difference between these two procedures? Do you have faster recovery time with either? Less incisions?

i'm sure others will add more input, but my understanding is the davinci is able to show everything inside in high definition and makes it easier for the dr to see and do what needs to be done... i was told the recovery time is faster with the davinci because there is less blood loss and less invasive...
my personal experience since i had both a davinci and a laproscopic surgery this year is they are pretty similar with incisions... i had 6 with davinci and 5 with the lap... i didn't have the quick & easy recovery with the davinci, but i had a lot done internally, so my dr said it was expected it would take longer to heal...

I had the da Vinci on June 9th. I had 4 incisions. The one that hurt the most after was the "assistant" incision, which is the one where the assistant was at the table working the port (like what I assume happens with the lap. surgery). The doctors said they thought it was because the robot is much more stable and precise in movements than a human is...who knows. I can't compare directly other than that, but it would seem that if all of them were done by human hands, they would have all hurt more...

They're not necessarily different. The da Vinci "robot" can be used to perform a TLH, a LSH or an LAVH, for example - it's a tool, not a particular procedure. In the hands of a well-trained surgeon, it can enhance their skills because they are able to see in 3D at 10x magnification; they can also sit down, which means they get less tired.

So, an LSH can be done either using the da Vinci robot or using more conventional laparascopic tools, with the doctor standing and using a regular, one dimensional camera held by an assistant. The important thing to remember is it's all about the skill of the surgeon and which method(s) he or she is most comfortable with.

Thank you. I am thinking my doctor is more skilled with the laparascopic way, since that is the only option that she presented to me. She did not say anything about the davinci hysterectomy. I had read about it on this site.
