8 days post hysterectomy - bowel issues

Ok so a week and a day ago I had my LAVH, I had no problems going to the bathroom after surgery... starting last night I just keep going and going and going. It is causing such intense stomach cramps, nausea, chills, and hot flashes so bad. I feel so depleted. At first it was solid, all night, then around 2am it was mush...and I'm continuing the mush until this very moment. Is this because they moved my bowels around? Was my uterus possibly sitting on my intestines (I had horrible constipation before it was taken out, I would go max once a week)... every since my surgery I've been going daily. I'm not complaining about going daily, my stomach is flat as ever, but omg will this even out? So sorry for the TMI but I feel so empty (literally)

Re: Bowel issues-tmi post

About a week after my surgery, as the internal swelling went down, my bowels went haywire. I was alternating between constipation and diarrhea. Then I caught a mild stomach virus, and mad multiple trips to the bathroom. However, it did ease up eventually.

Are you taking stool softeners or any other bm aids. I had to stop taking anything after day three, or I had diarrhea.

If this continues, you may want to call your Dr. Remember to drink lots of fluids, by the time you feel thirsty you are already dehydrated.

The mushy bowel movements could be from the antibiotics used in your surgery, upsetting the normal balance of bacteria in your intestinal tract; to restore balance, try a probiotic supplement, or regular servings of yogurt or kefir. You also need to maintain your electrolyte levels, along with your fluid levels; you can make a rehydration cocktail by adding 1/2 tsp of honey and a pinch of salt to a glass of clear fruit juice, or just get some Gatorade or Pedialyte. If it continues beyond 2 more days, or if you become so dizzy from dehydration that you can hardly stand up straight, then seek medical attention ASAP; combined with your other symptoms, it may point towards some kind of stomach bug. For the nausea, sip some ginger tea or flat ginger ale. Best wishes for your continued recovery!
