Fibroids & Cysts: Where do they come from?

I have a history of multiple ovarian cysts dating back to 2003. The largest at that time was 6cm x 8cm. In May of 2006 an ultrasound showed more cysts and 2 fibroids. Where do cysts and fibroids come from? How did I get them?

I think it is so sad, after all this time since your diagnoses, that there has not been that communication between you and your physician.

My doc told me that fibroids are in your uterus at birth......like little seeds on a strawberry. Said that many things can accelerate their growth.....hormone levels, not being pregnant, obesity. The tendency is inherited. All the women in my family.....both sides.....even the ones that had multiple births.....had enormous fibroids.

Fibroid Woman ~ I never really thought to ask him. He and I have always had FAR more important things to discuss...until now seeing that its alllllllll over.

I've done some homework and oddly enough I'm the first woman on both sides of my family to have fibroids and only the second to have a hysterectomy.

There are many different kinds of cysts. Some simple cysts are a normal part of ovulation. The other kinds are explained well here
