Surgical menopause?

I have been looking for information on surgical menopause. What should i expect? What can I do about it? I'd also like some information for my husband to read to help him understand my moods n crying spells. I am 15 days post op and had everything removed.

Re: Surgical menopause?

Hello kd,

I experienced hot flashes and night sweats almost immediately and had to increase my estradiol patch which resolved the issue. Since I wasn't menopausal before surgery, and I don't have the breast cancer hx etc, my doctor started me immediately on estradiol. I also was already on Lexapro due to PMDD/anxiety before, so I didn't have the severe mood shifts that other sisters have discussed here on the site...at least I think it's because of the Lexapro in combination with the estradiol for me.
For each sister it's different, but know that you are normal in how you are feeling and let your husband know what you need or don't need...I think communication is very important, especially during this time of healing.
Take Care!

Re: Surgical menopause?

I am still getting the hang of this site so be patient with me...
I am 33, and I had my full hysterectomy on June 1 this year, so I am not 2 months out... I don't really know if you can information to explain what you want to know... I keep looking everyday for answers, and I guess because everyone is different no one else's experiences seem to help answer my questions... I am on Zoloft 50mg and was about a month before my surgery, it helped me before the surgery and seems to be still working.. Although some days are better than others... I was on the estrogen patch Vivelle dot, I just wasn't happy with trying to remember when to change it and it irriatated my skin, other on here love it. I just changed this past week to the pill. So we shall see.... I wish you the best, it does get better...

Re: Surgical menopause?

KD, I keep looking and reading everything I can too. Like Sobritt says, everyone is so different. I'm 4 weeks post op tomorrow and can say at this point, I'm not planning on using anything. But I realize my thoughts could change tomorrow- ha! My body does heat up here and there, but I'm certainly not waking up in night sweats..... Just a little discomfort at this point. No change in mood at this point either and I had not only my DH, but also 2 of my BFFs promise to tell me if they noticed changes that I may just
Be overlooking. I keep communicating with my DH and we're taking it one day at a time. Hugs to all.
