Four days post op hysterectomy shortness of breath and wheezing

Hi, I had surgery on Oct 30th and everything went as planned. I have to wait a week for the test results. They did a total hysterectomy taking the ovaries and lymph nodes for Endometrial cancer. I went home on Friday as planned with a whole list of prescriptions to fill on the way home. Some of them were fro Tylenol and Aleve. I have done good with managing the pain with hubby's help. He helps me in and out of the bed and my chair and won't let me lift a finger.

Here's my problem. On Friday I started wheezing and experiencing shortness of breath. It has gotten worse over the weekend. I called the number the Doctor gave me to call but they haven't called me back yet. Should I just go to my General Practitioner Doctor? The Gyno/Onc that did the surgery is 2 hours away.

Just to be on the safe side, I would go see a doctor now (ASAP) rather than wait. It may be nothing to worry about, but there is a possibility your symptoms could be related to a blood clot and that can be extremely serious.
Let us know what you find out.

Hello, I think you should seek help asap as I was told any shortness of breath could be a DVT, I would go to the nearest emergency room.

I assume that you don't have asthma? I do and mine flared up right about the same time out that you are. It could be anything from asthma, to the anesthesia, breathing tube, meds or a virus or something. I would definitely get in to see a dr asap. Probably not the gyn, but you should let them know of your recent surgery. Good luck!

I agree, I think that you should be seen. You can call you Primary Care doctor or go to the ER, if you cant get a hold of your surgeon's office.

The same thing happened to me and turns out I had bronchitis and I'm already an asthmatic. Please if you havent done so already please get it checked out.

Thank you for the advice.I went to my Primary Care Physician and he did chest xray and blood work and determined it was my asthma reacting to the anesthesia just like you all said. Thank you for your help. I have an inhaler and am using the breathing thing they give you at the hospital and it is helping. Still waiting on some blood test results in the morning to rule out blood clots but since there is no chest pain or leg pain they don't think that is what it is. thank you all for being here with your helpful suggestions

Glad to hear it's probably not a clot! Those are scary. You did the right thing to go to the dr.

Quick update: Yesterday some blood tests came back that they took on Monday and I had an elevated d dimer result..not sure if i said that right but the Doctor himself called me and asked if i could get to the CT scan place right away. We got there within an hour and after waiting another hour( !!!!) for insurance approval, i had the scan. Then the Doctor had told them to keep me there until they got the results so we waited another hour or so. I spoke to the Doctor on the phone and he said the good news is no blood clots..the bad news I have pneumonia. I have another appointment with him and probably another chest xray tomorrow. (Thursday )
