hysterectomy needed soon

Hello,

I was told that i would need a Hysterectomy soon due to excessive bleeding twice a month, a fibroid tumor and endometriosis.
Needless to say i am scared to death. I don't know exactly what to expect.
My doctor says he will discuss more on the 14th when i return for a check-up.
I had an endometrial ablation done last month that did not work at all. I have had two periods since then with the same amount of bleeding. The doctor said there was only a 1% chance that it would take, because the endo was so bad he could not remove it all. I have alot of pelvic pressure most of the time.
I don't want to be cut ( as i'm sure no one else does either) but i hear that having a (abdominal) Hysterectomy will make me feel so much better.
I was wonder from a woman's perspective exactly what to expect afterwards? and how long is the usual stay in the hospital?
Thank you for listening.

hysterectomy needed soon

Hi Litlebitty

Everyone's experience is different so you might get several different answers to your questions. The length of hospital stay varies depending on doctors, insurance companies, type of surgery, etc. I had a TAH (abdominal) and was in the hospital for three nights.

From my own experience I had some mild discomfort the day of surgery but was kept in a morphine induced fog so I was pretty out of it. After that I was fine and had no pain at all. Please remember this is my own situation and not everyone is the same.

It is very important that after surgery you get plenty of rest each day. The first few weeks are the most crucial when it comes to internal healing so no matter how great you feel you must not overdo it.

Here is a link to several helpful hints. You may want to take a look at them before visiting the doctor on the 14th so you can ask more questions if necessary.

I hope this helps you somewhat. Best of luck
