Gas X Not working any other suggestions?
Good Afternoon Sisters.... Dr. finally said I could use gas x- (tried peppermint tea - nadda) - 3 weeks post op and the gas pains are the worst of it for me, especially at night. I have been walking - weather permitting outside too - but still - the gas pains are still pretty bad. Is this still from surgery or just my body? Prior to surgery I was very restrictive with my diet, almost allergic reation to wheat, glueting, - diareah all the time. Since surg. no problems other than gas? There was allot of endo and adno on bowels, all over inside me so they told me... So Suggestions please or is this just a waiting game and one day the gas will go away???
As always - thanks so much!!!

Oh, I know the pain of gas pain! My heart goes out to you.
Well, you've already tried the one that finally worked for me. Peppermint tea. My Dr. suggested Chamomile tea - it did nothing for me. Maybe it would work for you where peppermint didn't.
Also a warning about gasX. Be careful not to take more than the recommended amount. Too much can cause a backfire and cause more gas along with apparently a most unpleasant burning sensation when you poop. Sorry if I'd called the Dr. who originally given me a script for the prescr. strength simethicone (which my hubby lost while I was in hosp.) to see about getting the script renewed. I accidently got transferred to the base surgeon (who knew me from my breast cancer work up in fall). He's the one that warned about the GasX.
Also said, if gas is such a problem that I'm looking at heavy drugs, I should let my GYN know. What I'm perceiving as gas, may not be. I'd think 3weeks post the gas should be easing off. You may want to give Dr. office another call.
How are bowel movements otherwise? As bowels get moving more appropriately, gas should ease off.
I too have problems with IBS and that's why I'd gotten the script before surgery. I've been amazed at how little a problem my "IBS" has been post-op. But, I've always noticed that when my stress goes up or surgery happens, my IBS calms down. Opposite of most. But I'm glad for the break. Have you tried going back to your pre-op restricted diet?
Good Luck to you and I hope any of this helps!!!! LJC

Gas X Not working any other suggestions?
I wonder if it is bowel pain with all the work you had done. Is it possible that the severe pain you are feeling is from gas. I just ask b/c I had both. The GasX took care of the gas but Colace (stool softener) alone wasn't enough for the bowel pain. I ended up buying the Colace with laxative and once I cleaned myself out i was all better. HTH Sorry you are in so much pain. I feel for you.

Gas X Not working any other suggestions?
LuvAggs85 - thanks for the warning on GasX was not aware of that and it is most helpful information.
bookah212, i am beginning to think the same thing... I am thinking it is more bowel pain and not gas pain. My bowels are still setteling in maybe and getting use to working on a normal playing field???
"Going" has not been a problem but it is painful prior too - I also think the pain I am experiencing - which is more right side than left - when left ovary was in worse shape than right - is from adhesions being removed from prior append. operation years and years ago. I really did not get a thorough report from DR. only adno worse then endo and left ovary worse that right...
It is getting better with each day, but at night I am a tooting - and I never did before... I was not a tooter - if you get my drift...
i am going to try the Chamomile tea, I always used it before and it helped allot and also trying ginerale. I know soda is not good for you but I do not have natural ginger in the house, so ginerale is the best I could ask DH to find at grocery store.
Thanks for both your wisdom and knowledge... i will try tonight and see what happens! Thanks Sisters...

Gas X Not working any other suggestions?
My mother had this problem and gas-x and peppermint tea did not work for her....what she found that worked was ginger tea with just a little bit of room temp ginger ale in it....and also drinking lots and lots of water helps tremendously.
Best wishes
Wendy

Gas X Not working any other suggestions?
Gax x thin strips worked well for me. I was told to disregard the directions and take as many as needed. I hope you feel better soon.

Gas X Not working any other suggestions?
Try Plum Juice Like Plumsmart, also eat more fiber. I eat lot of fresh fruit and raw vegetables. It helps alot. It also cuts down on my meals so I don't over eat, actually losing weight, yeah!

rethink gasx
Sherri428. I'd be careful with the disregard the label recommendation. Both my old surgeon and gyn said to not over do the gasX/ simethicone. Just advice. I'd hate to see your bummm getting burned, that's just not any of us need right now. My suggestion would be keep taking the gasX as directed on the box but add either chamomile or peppermint teas (heck, I combined the two just for added flavor--- very nice blend), walking and time.
Good Luck!!! LJC
