How long....

I know every surgery is different, but can someone give me an estimate of how long my surgery will last? I am having a LSH in the morning and I do not remember what my doctor said. Surgery is for 7:30 and we have to be at the hospital for 5:15am. We live an hour away so basically we have to leave the house no later than 4:15am. So, it does not make any sense for me to go to sleep. Besides I'll sleep enough later. Thank you!

Re: How long....

My doctor told me 1 to 2 hours. I went over because he found extra and larger fibroids than expected. Recovery was/is good for me. Only had gas pains. Started walking gingerly 2 hours post op and slept propped up. That helped with gas. I also sipped water. continuously the first 48 hours to help with. gas, constipation, and flushing out meds. Doctor removed demorol pump 6 am next morning and made me take 1 percocet to make sure I wouldnt have a reaction and he wanted my first meal to be at the hospital. Took 1 percocet on second day couldnt sleep! Took 200 mg advil because I figured it would help healing if things werent swollen. IDK if it made a difference. I know you didn't ask for all that info but just wanted to share my postive recovery from lsh. Hope you have the same!!! Good luck. See you on the other side.

Re: How long....

No, I appreciate your response. So you had to stay over night? As of now, I am scheduled to go home the same day. But I was told to pack an over night bag just in case.

Re: How long....

I had LSH on November 1 - surgery scheduled for 7:40am and I opened my eyes in recovery at 10:15am. Was in the car on my way home at 12:30 . One word of caution - do not overdo!!!!! Even though this surgery has what seems to be the best recovery time, it's still major surgery. The only problems I had we're because I lifted when I shouldn't have because I felt so good. Now at 6 weeks out I feel positively amazing . Hugs and good luck on your surgery!

Re: How long....

I had to stay overnight because my doctor is very cautious. I had no complications. Sending you warm thoughts. Happy healing!!!

Re: How long....

Your doctor/nurse should be able to tell you this before your surgery because they will have had to reserve the surgical suite for a specific period of time based on what they know about your surgery.

You will get all kinds of responses to your question because the surgery varies so much based on how much is removed (total versus partial), how it is removed (full incision versus laparascopic) and if there are any other considerations (cancer or other disease.)

My advice is to listen to your doctor and let that be your guide.

I've read everything from a couple of hours to way more. I had huge fibroids and my partial hyst was laparascopic/robotic. I was wheeled in at 11 AM and woke up in recovery at 5:15. A long time? Yes. But this is what my doctor predicted up front and it didn't deviate from what I was told and they didn't have any unpleasant surprises.

Also, don't let the time involved fool you into worrying. My surgery took a long time, but I had no problems whatsoever afterward. My doc was very thorough and careful and there was no damage to anything else. I still went home that day.

Always remember that your situation is unique, your body is unique.
