Abdominal hysterectomy recovery time

Due to the length of my response on the cervix issue, thought I'd do a separate post on the rest..

I would urge you to ask your doc why he/she wants to do an abdominal, and why he/she thinks it's better than a vaginal procedure...and it's then up to you, to decide whether you're happy with the answer. For the most part, it certainly seems like ladies recover faster, with the vaginals. Some of the reasons I've seen for abdominals include size of fibroids, location of fibroids and the need to look around. In my case, my doc explained the reason she planned to do an abdominal, but told me she was willing to begin with a vaginal if I wanted...altho she explained why there would then be a chance she'd have to switch, mid-operation. Her explanation made sense, so I went with the abdominal, bc I wanted it to be part of the plan, instead of a change in plan.
But it's really important that you feel comfortable with the doc's reasons, and the plan. Once I'd had my pre-op, and asked all my Qs, and made all the final decisions (cervix or not, abdominal or not), I felt very much in control, and very calm and relaxed. and I'm convinced that contributed to an easy surgery for the doc, including minimal bleeding, and I think it's also contributing to my recovery, as I have no regrets, no 2nd thoughts.

Good luck.

Hi.
I've read it quite possibly has something to do with the contractions of an orgasm, therefore, making the O's less intense. Doc said it's 50/50. Also, stated that I would still have a smattering of bleeding each month.

Abdominal hysterectomy recovery time

Hi,
just reading your post and i thought i would give my little encouragments too! i had my TAH on 12-10-07 (5 mos. ago) and i was very nervous. i just happened to stumble upon this site just on my own and i'm sooo glad i did. all the info i got here helped me to ask the right questions that i didn't even think to ask. there were things that some women had gone through that made me question everything. When i saw my doc, she said wow! who's been talking to you! anyway my surgery was fine, i did take the entire 6 weeks and i'm glad i did some of us had complications and some didn't. i still have my ovaries but the cervix and uterus is gone,as far as the sex thing, i was nervous at first but everthing was fine, for me it was better than before because now the large fibroids are gone and i'm not in pain anymore and no more bleeding!!! THANK GOD!!! anyway keep asking questions to everyone that you can and most of all PRAY!!

oh, and this may not seem significant now but it will after surgery, NO FUNNY MOVIES!!!!!
