should i still be tired @ 1 month?
i had da vinci hyst, kept ovaries (apr 20). on apr 29 drove out of state for funeral. i was busy w/family etc. i took off from 4/20-5/11 4 recovery. i returned part days last week. i had someone tell me that this isn't "really surgery" as it was laparascopic. i don't know exactly what i should b doing or not. i felt so great when i got out of the hosp, but then obviously overdid. i thought i would feel better by now. i'm feeling useless and helpless as far as my recovery.

Re: should i still be tired @ 1 month?
HI Bella,
I had my surgery a week and a half before yours (also daVinci), and I still get very tired. I'm impressed that you felt good enough to take a trip nine days after your surgery (although with funerals, it's not like we have a choice on the timing).
I find that my energy (and the amount of pain I feel) varies dramatically. Sometimes I have a lot of energy and other times none at all. Sometimes I can see a reason why I might be tired (maybe I overdid it), but other times, I'm just tired and don't know why.
Going back to work after four weeks is pretty soon, so it's no wonder you're running out of steam. As for those who say it's not really any big deal, they're totally full of it! It's true that those of us who had a daVinci surgery don't have to deal with the huge external incisions, but what happened internally isn't any different. We still had major parts of our body cut away; we have hundreds of stitches or staples, and our internal organs have been rearranged and are under a lot of stress.
IT IS BIG DEAL! and it takes a long time to heal. Most people say that it takes six months to a year before we are totally healed internally, so be gentle with yourself and listen to your body. If you're feeling tired, you probably need some rest.

I am only 9 days from surgery and I hear the being tired drags on for a while. BUT you did have surgery. You had majoy organs taken out of you. I bet there is not one person that has had a hysterectomy that would say that.

I am about 9 weeks post op. I'm still tired. Now I'm usually in bed before 10 which is not my normal. I agree with lmhs, you had major organs taken out of you and no matter the method, its still surgery. Just listen to your body, not other people.

Re: should i still be tired @ 1 month?
Im almost 20 weeks post op now and I still get tired late afternoon. I take a shot of Liquid B12 at about lunch time and that helps me through the afternoon. You might talk to your Dr about that as some don't care much for supplements. It really helps me and I can definitely tell if I missed a dose.
Be kind to yourself...it's only been a few weeks. daVinchi or not, you just had major surgery with the removal of organs that have a major impact on how your body reacts to everything.
Whoever told you it wasn't really surgery??? has obviously NO CLUE what they are talking about.
Keep pampering the Princess...you deserve it.

I'm 4 weeks Post Op today and I get tired also. Morning time I feel great and after 5pm I feel like a train hit me and I want to go to bed. I usually go to bed after 11pm, now I got to bed before 8pm and thats not like me.

Re: should i still be tired @ 1 month?
A little over 6 weeks post op (also Da Vinci) and yes, I'm still tired, too. My friends who have been through hysterectomies of all types all say the same thing: returning to normal activity is only part of it - it's the crushing exhaustion that drags on. I can see what they mean, though I admit that I thought I'd bounce back more quickly in that regard. Rest, take care of yourself, and consider the trauma your body's been through. As my DH reminded me when I hit a wall at 4 weeks or so: it's not as though you were feeling fantastic going into the traumatic surgery, either! I am trying to keep "listening to my body."

Re: should i still be tired @ 1 month?
Had the Davinci on April 9th. I usually have good energy in the morning, then ready to crash around 4 pm. I know I am doing way too much. Working in the yard and not stopping to rest, so I deserve to be tired! I keep having to remind myself that I had major surgery.
