Lupron for fibroids and bleeding? Any experiences?
Has anyone chosen to or needed to have Lupron injections to shrink fibroids or stop bleeding? What was your experience?

Re: Lupron? Any experiences?
I just got my second dose of Lupron on Monday. Mine is for endometriosis. When I received my first dose it was right before my period was going to start. It was the worst period I had ever had. Very painful and heavy. The next month I didn't have a period. The only lasting side effect I have is hot flashes. I have found there are a lot of women against it but I feel it really helped. The back and hip pain I had all the time was gone. So far it has been a positive thing for me. Good luck! It's tough to decide to put something into your body that has to run it's course.

Re: Lupron? Any experiences?
I did. And I was scared to have the shot because I read so many horror stories.
However, my experience was pretty positive. I had a lot of hot flashes which were annoying and a little embarrassing (and made it hard to work out in the summer), but not horrible. My skin was clearer than ever too - bonus! My fibroid shrunk quite a bit (20%), and some of the random cramping I'd always had went away entirely. It wasn't bad at all.
My doctor ordered me another 3 month dose after the first and unfortunately...it took SO LONG to get there because of an insurance problem that the fibroid returned to it's original size in less than 2 months (and I got an 8 day period at the same time...just to add insult to injury.) Really frustrating. No lasting side effects at all, so it was worth the risk for me.
Good luck.

Re: Lupron? Any experiences?
(((Beth0810)))
I had Lupron for 3 months before my surgery - one shot per month - to hopefully shrink one extremely large fibroid.
For me, the side effects consisted of menopausal-type symptoms which were joint pain, dry skin and hot flashes, but they were nothing I couldn't handle. It was well worth it because my one enormous fibroid shrank by two-thirds! It also stopped the bleeding, although that wasn't the purpose of the treatment.
It was an excellent result, allowing for an easier and safer procedure. I also found that the side effects wore off very quickly indeed when the drug wasn't topped up for a fourth time.
There is a lot of bad press out there regarding Lupron but, as with most other things, good news is no news!
Keep researching and asking questions - we'll support you every step of the way!

Re: Lupron? Any experiences?
Thank you so much! I already have hot flashes, so I'm not sure I would care or notice having them on Lupron. I also already have joint pain (I honestly think I'm almost at menopause, despite being only 41).
The biggest reason I would like to be on Lupron is that it would stop my bleeding, or at least that would be my hope. I hate the bleeding!
I will hopefully be able to talk to my doctor about all of this on Monday when I have my biopsy. I really don't want to have the biopsy, but I guess it's necessary as I have thickened lining and it's a prerequisite to pretty much any treatment for the bleeding.

Lupron for fibroids and bleeding? Any experiences?
I've done both. I had Lupron shots for Endo. Horrible. My short term memory was almost non existent. Literally would forget what I was cooking, driving o xway with no idea where I was going. It's is improved now but I am still quite forgetful. Before Lupron I remembered nearly everything (anniversaries, birthdays, names etc). Sometimes it was like my leg wouldn't get the message from my brain to move and would drag a little. Just awful. The results were temporary and the Endo came back. I now have a pituitary tumor that I have read can be a side effect of Lupron. Who knows.
Years later I did the ablation for flooding/excessive bleeding. Wonderful for about 7yrs. Now awful pain and cramps beyond belief. Doc says that when they do an ablation they can't get all the tissue so what remains is hormone responsive and will bleed. The ablation causes scarring because they are basically burning the lining of uterus this scarring can trap the remaining tissue or block passage of blood out of the cervix. The blood has to go somewhere and can back up into the uterus and or tubes and possibly rupture. My tubes are also tied so less area to back up.
Now I'm scheduled for the Davinci hysterectomy, sarcoplexy, and perineal repair.
My experience left me with this feeling. Lupron alters the brain which may not be reversible. I wouldn't do it if I could go back. The ablation wasn't a permanent fix but bought me time without having to go through a hysterectomy. Those 7 yrs were the best. Who knows how long that time may be, maybe longer or shorter. This hysterectomy comes with so many unknown out comes. I'm glad I didn't do it sooner (my dr wanted to do one 20yrs ago). I'm 42 and if there was a way to delay this final (hopeful, lol) surgery I would. I have multiple issues and have finally accepted its time.
I hope this helps you in your research on what to do.
