post-op pain
Surgery was on Wednesday and it's now Monday. I still have pain and feel alot of pressure. I haven't had a bowel movement and my doctor suggested peri-colace today. Any suggestions or similar stuff.

Re: post-op pain
Hi. You are just beginning your recovery. You will have pain for several weeks. Not necessarily severe but it will be there. Take it easy and be patient.
As for the potty issue, my Dr. suggested a stool softener/laxative and it definitely worked but I also made sure I ate lots of salad and fiber cereal at first to help. It's been 4 weeks for me and I still need the laxative sometimes. The bowels take time to heal. Also, drink lots of fluids!
Good luck to you!

Re: post-op pain
Hi TheView,
Be patient with the pain. You will feel it for a while. It it is not severe, try to use over the counter pain killers. Advil liquid gell caps worked for me. If you use narcotics for pain, they will worsen the bowell issue.
Also if you had bowel prep before surgery, it is normal not to go to the bathroom for several days. It happend to me too.
I was taking colace two times a day after surgery and as nothing was comming out I took one dulcolax. It worked and the colace makes me regular so far.
Higs and best wishesh for quick recovery

Re: post-op pain
I had the same issues. My surgery was 9/8. I take two stool softeners whenever I take my pain medication (the prescribed pain med, not tylenol or ibuprofen). It didn't help immediately so I tried a laxative too. That was a mistake (for me anyways)! I ended up with exremely painful cramping and frequent, loose bowel movements. I am just sticking with the softeners when I take the pain medication and that seems to be working for me.
Good luck to you!
