Re: leg pain

If you even suspect a clot, it's best to get checked out with an ultrasound. Blood clots can't be detected by simply lookig at the leg, and you don't have to have swelling to go with the pain.

Symptoms are different for different people, so you might want to call your ER and ask to speak with the doctor on call about this. It's better if you go in to be examined, but at least call.

Hope you feel better soon.

Re: leg pain

One of the things my Dr. (and my best friend who is an ER nurse) checked when I was having leg pain was whether the pain was worse when flexing your foot. It was the first thing the doctor asked when I called. Thankfully it was not worse and was not a clot.

Re: leg pain

I too have suffered from leg pains since my surgery almost 2 wks ago.....however mine come from my hips and go down both legs...sitting around a lot seems to make them more uncomfortable - but walking too makes them sore too....Im putting all this down to healing, although not sure why all the constant leg pains. Add to that lower back pains. Others have said this is due to your insides being manipulated during surgery. Whatever the case - ouch!!
I do agree with Catherine - any new leg pain that begins post op should be investigated.

Re: leg pain

good question; you could go for a time with an undetected blood clot. on the side of caution, it should be checked out. however, usually the pain does not come and go and the swelling, if any, can get worse. if worried, talk to your dr.

I doubt it would be blood clots with pain in both legs at the same time. Usually you would have pain in one leg. I'm not saying it's not possible, but it's unlikely. Still, you might want to check with your doctor to see what's causing the pain in your legs.

Re: leg pain

I went and got checked again today at the clinic with a different dr. The dr. just felt and pressed into the muscle on my calf. He determined there was no blood clot because he said if there was my muscle would be all hard and it was not. So I guess, I shuldn't worry anymore since that is two dr.s now saying no blood clot. Although the worry seems to stay a bit because I've read a clot can only be found by ultrasound. I'm off to put a heating pad on my leg now. that is what the dr. suggested.

Re: leg pain

I don't remember my calf muscle being hard. Another thing, clots above the knee are more serious than those that form below the knee. I don't think most clots can be diagnosed simply by a physical examination of the leg. If the pain continues, please go to the ER. Oh, and don't rub the affected leg because if there is a clot, rubbing could cause it to travel.

Re: leg pain

My knees are both achey. I don't know if I have over done walking or not done enough. They both feel about the same. I am having a hard time keeping food down so that could be a factor.
I started chemo on Tues, so I am on day 5, if you count chemo days. What about a detox bath, epson salts and baking soda?

Re: leg pain

Thanks for the information about the leg pain. both legs felt like they were asleep two days after surgery. Dr said it may be the way I was in the stirrups even though they are careful to place you. I had a lot in the hospital and it got better when I came home but now it is back some. I am walking and have used the heating pad but it is not going away. I am going to call the doctor. My pain is in my lower calf and foot it is like a constant nagging feeling. I had surgery April 19, 2011.
