Ovarian cysts that do not dissolve on their own often will respond to birth control pills.
I am shocked your doctor wants to do a hysterectomy for just cysts, unless they are dermoid (solid) cysts. I have one of those now. In my case, a combination of the dermoid cyst (tumor), endometriosis, fibroids & years of pain and a history of ruptured cysts FINALLY is resulting in this surgery.
Have you gotten a second opinion? I think I'd get one.
With that said, if you are ready & you have no feelings against it or not, do what you feel is best for you.

Good luck!!!

You have a OBGYN appointment in 2 days, correct? If that's the case do as much research online as you can before that appointment. Ask many many questions at your appointment. If ovaries are your only issue your ovaries and tubes can be removed, if necessary, without removing your uterus if it is healthy.Your best option is to be prepared with all your questions before your appointment so your informed about all treatment options. This will make your doctor visit much more positive. I wouldn't have ovaries removed until you and your doctor explore all treatment options for the cysts first. Ovaries are very important, please research more!!

Re: Ovarian cysts ~ please help with any suggestions

My cysts were all confined to one of my tubes and they were painful and not the kind that disolve on their own. They were tollerable while I was on the pill but horrible when I got off of it.

In addition to the great advice the other two ladies gave, I'd be asking where all of the cysts are that ARE a concern. Some ovarian cysts just disolve on their own, some do not. Some cause problems and some do not. Could you find relief with removal of one tube and ovary, while leaving the other? Could you find relief with removing both tubes and the worse ovary and saving one ovary to avoid surgical menopause?

My sister dealt with ovarian cysts. They would rupture and cause pain and then she'd be comforatble for a while until new ones came back. She just went through menopause (she's 46) and so all of herr symptoms have resolved.

There are a lot of side effects that can occur as a result of a hysterectomy, but there are a whole lot more that can occur from losing your ovaries. I would get a second and explore all my options before agreeing to losing both ovaries.
