Have 2 questions.....

We're supposed to have dinner with some friends in a few weeks and i was wondering when it's ok post op to have a drink or two?
Second question, has anyone gotten a tattoo after having a hysterectomy? I would like to get one but not sure what. Something that symbolizes that I'm still me, still the same person even without my uterus. Any ideas or thoughts?

Re: Have 2 questions.....

I just had the same question today as I eyed some nice cold beer in the fridge... alas I am only one week post-op so I'm sure the answer is "no". The gas alone would probably kill me. Four weeks post-op? I would guess that one drink wouldn't hurt- my Dr. certainly didn't go out of her way to say "NO DRINKING UNTIL..." but best to check, just in case.
As to your second question, I don't have any tattoos, but I have an old 6" horizontal "bikini" scar which is now bisected by a 8" vertical scar, making a cross. I thought a very fine-lined, stylized tree with roots reaching down and branches reaching up would be nice... It'd be BIG though...
My Dr. suggested an anchor! :P whatever!
I've always been drawn to the symbolism of the mermaid- lovely and feminine, but also "different" from the waist down.
Good questions!!!!

Re: Have 2 questions.....

I personnaly was thinking 24 hours after my last round of meds. This way I wouldn't be mixing pain meds and alcohol. I like the idea of a tattoo I would definately ask the doctor what time frame that could happen.

Re: Have 2 questions.....

You do not want to mix the pain medications and alcohol. Once you are off of them a glass of wine won't hurt. Just make sure you don't drink to much so that you forget and move wrong or hurt anything. Best wishes to you.

Re: Have 2 questions.....

I think it would be ok to have a drink as long as you do not take pain meds as well. I would think that it should be at least 24 hrs after your last pain pill. I had to go to a wedding (my daughter was the flower girl) 2 weeks after my TAH and I had a drink or 2! Nothing heavy. Just wine. As far as the tattoo, were you thinking of having one done where your scar is? If so I believe that getting a tattoo over a scar is very painful. There are other places on your body that are painful as well, but scars are the worst. (however, as with anything everyone is different!!!!) I have one right above my ankle. I LOVE purple roses and got a purple rose there! Pick something that says you, but something that you have liked or enjoyed for yrs. Not something you are into now! All the best to you!
