Total abdominal hysterectomy - Both Ovaries kept - swelly belly and hot flashes

Hi. I'm a 42 year old Mum of 2 from the UK. I'm 34 days post op. It's been a rollercoaster of an experience! I'm currently suffering with swells belly and twinges on my right groun side. I'm also experiencing hot flashes in the evening and in to bed time. I'm having to open the bedroom window every night and my husband's complaining it's freezing!! Anyone else experienced this?

Ovaries don't like to be touched and they tend to "sleep" after surgery. That means they produce a lot less estrogen than your body is used to so you may experience classic menopausal symptoms. My ovaries slept for 6 weeks following my surgery and during that time I had hot flashes, insomnia, headaches and mood swings. FUN! Give your body time to recover from surgery and if your ovaries were healthy, I feel confident they will wake up in a few weeks. In the meantime ride the of hot flashes! Good luck and hang in there!
